Before I get my cats (christmas time is my plan) I'm wanting to put an enclosure on my balcony.

Originally I was going to enclose it with bistro blinds (strata gave permission for this but not netting), but I'm a bit concerned I can't make the blinds secure enough for a cat not to be able to get out. I live right next to a communal driveway & on a busy street so I'd hate for them to go exploring. Plus I think it would get very hot in summer.

Anyway, is it possible to get an enclosure that can be folded down so If I need the extra space on the balcony I can temporarily put it away? But still strong enough to cope with wind as it can get a bit windy on the balcony at times.

I'm wanting something that I can link with a cat run to the sliding door so they can access it when I'm not home.

Here are some pics of the balcony:

The balconys not huge, about 2.5m x 3m.

Does this sound feasible? Or should I just stick with the bistro blinds.

I'm not sure about something that is removable, but what about putting netting behind the blinds so that it's totally secure but the netting is not visible from the outside?

It's a shame that they will not allow netting as it can be very discrete - on the other hand, it's great that your strata is okay about you having cats and building an enclosure as some CW members here have had a lot of trouble getting approval!

When I lived at South Hurstville I had a lovely balcony I enclosed for the furballs by simply buying to sheets of lattice to fit the open area and attached it to the railing with ocky straps! I then put some shadecloth over the top as I was in a villa so no roof! It looked nice and they could see out as well and it still let the air through.

It worked a treat both me and the furballs enjoyed our time out there. I never let them out if I wasnt home though and they were still happy with that.

I have a netting enclosure on my balcony & you can hardly notice it. I think it would be more preferable than bistro blinds.

You can see it in my avatar.

Edited to include last sentence.

Have you shown them the enclosure that can be done with black netting....almost invisible. http://www.secureakat.com.au/
These people make very good almost invisible balcony enclosures - get them to send you a photo or two.
