I went to visit the new kittens this afternoon, which was great (and I'll post photos separately).

The breeder also is a boarding cattery and in one of the cages there was a beautiful, big, brown, boofy boy, the spitting image of Reilly in his prime. It kind of caught me by surprise seeing him there, and I must admit that my reaction to him did too as I have been teary ever since. I can't believe it's been 5 months and although the addition of Levi and the upcoming arrival of the kittens is great, Reilly's left an enormous gap. I miss him sooooo much.

Here he is with Lara (also gone to the RB and much missed)

It does get easier, but you still always remember them.
Tara the oriental who started this love of the breed died 5 years ago.
Recently at a show I caught sight of an oriental who looked just like her and my heart thudded, them I got tears in my eyes, it caught me by surprise, 5 years on. bearhug.sml Sue

Thanks Sue.... it's good to know that I am not the only one to react like this! Reilly's father was a very well known stud here in WA back in the late 80s and early 90s. I saw Reilly's half brother a couple of times at cat shows and he also looked like him. I would not be surprised if the cat I saw today came from the same line... he really could have been Reilly from a few years ago.

It still hurts but it does get easier as time goes by . I lost my Mickey 2 1/2 years ago at the grand age of 19 1/2 and I still miss him every day . Some days I will just have a sudden beautiful memory of him & I am reduced to tears but for the most part it is just a warmth in my heart that I loved him and I was loved in return by such a beautiful and trusting creature .

RIP Reilly Rainbow bridge.gif

I lost Kiri 4 years ago, and there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about her.
Some days are sad days and the memories make me cry, but other days I just remember how sweet she was and how much I loved her.
Like your Reilly, Kiri had a stud son who was still alive (aged 15) when she died.
The breeder put a girl in with him one last time...and a litter was produced. That's Angelique who I have now. Some of my friends were worried that I would expect Angelique to be just like Kiri - I knew she wouldn't be, but having a part of my girl back with me comforts me and gives me some inner peace as well.
I lost my other Boy almost 3 months ago, and I still miss him a lot too. Reading about stray cat George on these forums has had me in tears several times because it reminds me so much of how Boy started out.
I think the grief of losing them lessens, but I don't think the missing them ever stops.

It is 4.5 years since FE left us and it is amazing the things that trigger in me such soul wrenching sadness. As much as I love H & C, they can and never will fill his paw imprints.

RIP Reilly.

Beautiful - so sorry for your loss, everyone is different for me it's 2 years since I lost Max and some days it's like it was yesterday, so upsetting.
Take it one day at a time and remember the happy times, I believe we will see our babies again.
hugs to you

Lara,
that is interesting that you mentioned about the lines, someone at that show mentioned that it was very possible that the lovely cat who looked so like Tara was from the same lines as her.
She too was a grand age, 18 years and 1 month.
Rainbow bridge.gif Are all our furries, having a wonderful time together, waiting for us.

Its been 18 months since Oscar and 3 months since Winnie went to RB. I still light Oscars candle each Friday and Winnie's of a Tuesday.

There are still many many tears but now also a lot of smiles as I talk to them.

But it will never be the same.
