I think you mean Palet- the top part of the mouth? If so, sounds like she is lucky that she didn't get brain damaged!

She might not be ready to eat- surely the vet will tell you when it is appropriate and take the tube out? Alternatively she might need some help.

If i was you, and the vet thinks it's ok, I would put some cooked chicken/mince/steak etc in a blender and make it into baby mush like you would do for a 4mth old 2 legger baby. I would soak her usual dry food in water and do the same thing, or even mix them together into a yummy paste... Then i would gently spoon just a tiny bit onto her lips so she can lick it up. Keep trying that for a little while and maybe in a few weeks she can start eating more chunky stuff (but moistened or soft only of course).

What do other people think?

That seems like a good advice re the paste - I would actually put it in her mouth - gently of course. Is she drinking? Maybe if it was enough of a slurry you could syringe a little into the side of her mouth...

Oh the poor dear! Glad to hear she's healing well though. Have you tried syringing the food into the side of her mouth very slowly and just a little at a time. You can get syringes (without the needle) at most chemists in different sizes, we use one with millilitre measures to give Taya a couple of mls of water to wash down her morning tablet - it's small and can stick otherwise. But by entering from the side of her mouth she sort of laps it down at her pace - might be easier than a spoon to get a smaller amount, and easier for her to swallow. Otherwise how is she at licking the food off your fingers?

ETA obviously Heather and I had the same thought at the same time smile.gif

Make sure you give her just a little at a time - don't want her choking on it....good luck. Her mouth must still be very sore.

Is that Susie? She's got gorgeous markings, so defined. Glad to hear she's doing so well, Ihope she able to feed herself soon but as long as she's healing I guess there's no need to rush, she'll get there in her own time.

What a very lucky meow, to both have survived and to have you caring so diligently for her!

Poor little girl.

Have you thought about getting some nutrigel? Vets do sell it, and there is another brand also and you can pick it up from pet places - its like a very high vitamin/calorie food, thick and black a bit like molasses - but very good for convalescing animals, and very easy for them to eat - simply either mix some with a little water,or just put it straight into the syringe and either way just syringe it in - I think 2 10cm strips - which is about 5ml? is enough to keep a 5 kg cat going if they don't eat anything else????

Hopeing she heeals quickly and easily

Liz
