There has been a black smoke kitty hanging around and causing dramas in my area. Up until today I thought he was someone who was just an irresponsible owners cat. Today I saw him in the daylight and he is totally skin and bones, it broke my heart so I think he is a stray. He is out 24/7 also. I have put food out and I am going to try and catch him over the next few days and will take him to the vet to be scanned for a chip etc but if anyone is missing a kitty in mentone melbourne (bayside suburbs) fitting the below description please PM me.

A young adult, I'd guess between 1 and 3 years old. I am quite sure from the smell of his stinky spray on my front door (nice) that he is not desexed but I am not 100% on this at this stage - will update when I have more details. No collar. He is black smoke (silver undercoat) with gorgeous green/gold eyes and is so far too timid to approach any humans but loves to torment my cats staring in the windows but doesnt seem aggressive, more like he wants to join in! He has a slinky oriental look about him but he doesnt look like a pure bred.

A lot of other neighbours are complaining about him and I am concerned that if I cant catch him myself that someone not so nice will. There are a few cat hating people around here unfortunately. If you think he could be yours please let me know.

Thanks smile.gif

Sorry, not mine. Have you tried talking to Bayside council/Kingston council about it? I'm not sure what their policy is re:feral cats but i dare say they'd have some way to help you.

Thanks all. The council here will euthanase without hesitation if the cat is not chipped and unsocialised or feral. Ideally I would like to trap him myself and get him to my vet to check him for a chip. This vet is also a holding facility for Bayside council so it means he could stay there for 8 days possibly and if no-one claims him then if he is not a feral and can be rehomed he might be able to go into their adoption program. Anyway at this stage I just have to catch him. He didnt come back last night, the food was uneaten this morning though I think the crazy winds could be keeping him in hiding.

I would actually like to get a trap as he is pretty unsocialised so all my talking and cooing to him is not convincing him that I am nice and wanting to help. I cant see that he is just going to let me pick him up anytime soon. I am going to see if I can hire one from somewhere. Will keep you all posted. Thanks smile.gif

Glad you are helping this kitty
Not sure about Victoria but in NSW Kennards Hire have cat traps- it was 3 years since I rang them but the prices weren't too bad.
Hope this poor cat is chipped and simply lost

Nat, you can buy traps on Ebay for $50. I bought one and it works perfectly fine. You can borrow mine if you want, I just can't help you with getting it to you. If you want to pick it up though, you are more than welcome to use it.

Thank again. 2 nights ago I heard a huge cat fight outside and went to see what was going on, I only saw a neighbours cat running home but I can only guess the other cat was the smokey kitty. I havent seen him since then and have left food out every night which has been left uneaten. I am seriously worried that he is hurt and injured after the fight. He has been hanging around for weeks and now when I want him to come he isnt - Its always the way. Hopefully he will turn up soon and is ok. Thanks for the offer of the trap kirty and love fridays, I will wait and see if he comes back and let you guys know whether I will need it or not. I hope the little baby is ok, will keep you updated.

Thanks all smile.gif
