My cat has been recently prescribed medication which comes as an elixir and must be adminstered once a day. I am having quite a bit of trouble getting the stuff reliably down her. She's a big cat and I can't use the trick of swaddling her in a towel like I used to when she was a kitten. I can get her to open her mouth if I put the syringe with her meds against the side of her mouth, but she spits it out before I can make her swallow.

Any suggestions?
Thanks!!

if you have a helper, get them to hold your cat firmly by the shoulders (on all fours, like in a resting position) on a non slippery surface. Then you need to point the cat's face towards the ceiling, this will make it's jaw slacken and open naturally. Then just make sure you squirt the liquid right down the throat. When giving tablets, I always finish with a squirt of water to make them swallow properly.
Good luck, isn't it fun!

If it tastes nasty she's going to see you coming and fight like hell smile.gif I went through two courses of Flagyl and that is really nasty tasting. I found a pharmacy that put the medicine in beef flavored suspension. Once the nasty taste went away he was still not happy, but didn't spit it out.
