[color="#FF0000"]They are peeing everywhere.... Why are they peeing everywhere?
I clean the boxes daily. I have tried many cat litters. I have 2 cats (can't figure out if they are both doing it or just one) Their favorite places to pea: Bathtub, they pea on wet towels the kids leave on the floor after they shower, on top of their cat box cover. They have been to the vet...they are healthy.
I have 3 cat boxes. I even just recently put 2 different litters out (one kind in each box) next to each other to see what they prefer...also I must add they use all little boxes. I am at a loss.....Please even any ideas please advice........I really want to keep my cats!!!!
They even peed on a couch cushion (too big for washer and dry cleaners) How should I clean the cushion, to get odor out? My couch is bear and it has been for a few days.
Thanks for helping.

Welcome to CW - I am sorry that you are having problems with your cats.

Back to square one - put them in a small room - such as laundry with their litter trays - maybe 2 of them and their food water and perhaps a scratch post if it will all fit.....and keep them there until they have learned that peeing is just for litter boxes.....then open up just one more room....and over time release them to more of the house. Make sure there is a litter tray - temporarily - in whatever rooms they have access too.

BEFORE letting them out use a red light if necessary - and clean very thoroughly anywhere the cats have or might have peed. Use a product like Urine Off - for the sofa cushion or give it to a professional upholstery cleaner and explain that it is cat peed on....and for any other area including washing the towels use a biological powder - we have one called Biozet which will destroy any faint hint of the urine odour....cats will return to anything that has urine odour smell on it.

Also check that you do not have outside cats that are disturbing them so that they feel they have to mark their territory.

Good luck........hope you can resolve it all.

I will move this to Cat Chat because it will get more people read it there.

Thanks for your reply. I have put them into a room (it has been a few weeks with a few escapes...lol) In the room I have left 2 cat litters (2 different kinds....one with clay that clumps from pet smart the other Sweat Scoop Litter which is a natural wheat litter......has anyone else used? Also can I get some ideas for a good litter. I would love to have them out....but i have to get smell (that i can not smell) out of a few more spots. I bought a purple light from Pet Smart. It works lousy. Im upset with that purchase. Both cats are spayed (mother/daughter). Thanks again for the replies! We love our cats!

We find our cats here don't like clumping litter at all. We use breeders choice, which they seem to love.

Do you have a hooded and a non hooded tray? For a while, Keesha wouldn't use the hooded litter tray at all, we had no clue of what was the problem and when we were cleaning out our hooded one and we had just filled it up, ready to put the lid on she used it.

I agree with confining them to one room until they have learned to use only the litter trays. When they do come out, begin with supervised time only and then back to their room. If necessary, sit them in the litter tray morning and evening and make sure they do something in the correct place - not allowed out of the room until they have! In your case it sounds like naughty behaviour rather than stress or a health issue, so they're going to need to be educated.

I have two types of litter and two types of tray for our two. They use the clumping litter (very fine-grain though) and the other is manufactured from waste-plantation timber "100% biodegradable". They use both. Currently they have one regular size litter tray and two huge plastic storage containers with a space cut in the side to act as a door. The trays are kept in the bathroom/laundry area where they are given a certain amount of privacy.

Make sure any accidents are cleaned up with something similar to "Urine Off", Biozet laundry detergent and/or vinegar...

Good luck. Cleaning up constantly is NOT much fun.

You have been given good advice.

I use OzPet litter and it is great - don't know where you are so not sure if it will be available to you?

For cleaning the couch - I had a girl pee on our new couch and we used ODABAN E - it works better than anything else I've tried - and I've tried them all!

Over a number of days I kept spraying the affected area, letting it soak right through. And I even got a syringe and injected the cushion - really soaked it! It took a few goes but now it's toally dry and you can't smell the pee - and it didn't stain the couch - yeah!

Welcome to CW welcat.gif You've come to the right place for advice. And you've received great advice already!

Litter is always an interesting question, and it's been my experience that the cats decide for you! My cats will not use anything other than Catsan Clumping Cat Litter (and I have tried all the others), so that's what I use.

A tip that I have learned over the years of cat slavery is that piles of clothes (clean or dirty makes no difference), wet towels, bath mats, and such things are an open invitation for cats to wee on. So everything in my house is tailored around that, all clothes in cupboards or clothes baskets, all towels hung up, all bath mats picked up immediately etc. It makes life so much easier smile.gif

Good luck!

First Hello and welcat.gif to CW, you will get lots of info here!! Not sure if you posted where you are located, we use breaders choice which is recylced paper litter its perfect and use a scoop to clean out their number twos LOL I generally top up three times a week and clean thorough once or twice a week try not to moove the trays around to much too as they like to know where things are. As for the towels we had a little weeing problem with our little bridge girl Tiffany she would pee on anything left on the floor even on my boots, not sure why probably she was getting older and senile . YOu could try a product called Odour eliminator works really well, I suppose you need to keep the towels of the floor and kitties out of bedrooms and maybe confine them for a small amount of time during the day especially if your out.

Anyway let us know how you go
Regards
Cherie

I see you are in the USA - and this is a site that has predominantly Australian Members....of course everyone is welcome and we have a great International Family but my point is that BioZet is sold in Australia as a laundry detergent.....may be difficult to get it too you in the US. Have you googled for urine remover.

Biozet here works because it has enzymes in it. Can you look in your local supermarket and see if they sell an equivalent? Just look for a washing powder that has enzymes of some form as it's the enzymes that neutralises the smell to cats.
