Hey Everyone,

My male kitten has been neutered today, and I am having some real issues with him since I have come home.

He won't settle down, he seems to be in pain every time that he sits.

He is just walking around and walking around crying, and I am not really sure what to do.

Earlier he was licking the site constantly, and it became inflamed. I then went back to the vet and got some spray to use that apparently tastes awful, so he is not licking it anymore.

Can you please tell me if this is normal for a desexed male kitten, I have never actually had to go through this before, and I am really really worried.

Thanks

I have never had that reaction from a male kitten - if he is still in pain tomorrow, take him back to the vet and tell him/her that this is not normal.

It doesnt sound normal at all. Is the vet still open? I would be taking him back straight away and quickly. How imflammed is it? Are you sure there isnt a bleed happening - dont mean to alarm you but he has had an operation and it can happen. I would get him assessed somewhere tonight.

i would take him back to the vets tomorrow if he hasn't settled down. Unless its stressing you out more than him then i would take him to an after hours vet

i have just had one of my males desexed two weeks ago and he didn't have that problem either and actually neither did my other moggie when we got him done earlier this yr.

Hi everyone,

He has finally just settled down! YAY!!

I have spoken to my vet. He said that it could be a reaction to the shaving in that area, but even my vet had no real clue why he would be acting like he was. He also though that maybe he was having a reaction to the anestetic.

The only suggestion that the vet had was to bring him back in and he would give him a sedative for the night.

However - I have now managed to get him to stay in one position for 2 minutes, and he just all of a sudden fell asleep and has not moved since.

Thanks for all of your help. I think I will just wait now and see how he goes.

How old is he?

just make sure that there is no swelling in the area - that could be a sign of bleeding into the scrotum.

and also I had one once where he had 2 little red bits dried up and sticking out - the tubes - lol - but was easily fixed

Hope he stays settled for you

Liz

I'm glad he is settled - it sounds like he was still under the anaesthetic to me ..... had one boy that took a long time to come round but if you are uncertain always go back to the vet.

Maybe when he wakes up from sleeping he might like a TINY bit of his favourite treat to eat....not too much or you will make him sick.
