I have three Brits and I use a slicker brush. You need to be gentle because the 'prongs' are quite sharp. I also use a zoom groom (a rubber brush type thing) which is great but sends the hair flying everywhere. Also, if you are showing your cat, go easy on the grooming! If you groom too much you will thin their coats. smile.gif

Thanks for the reply, where can I get a slicker brush from? Have you tried the Furminator?

The furminator works well on my BSh but never use it on a show cat. Get the small one. I find it great for when they all change coats.

I also love the Furminator for my british. As Pamela said, if you show your cat, it would not be a good tool to use.

just wondering why it would not be a good tool if you were going to show?
thanks, and how often do you groom with the furminator?

I don't have British but I presume it will take out too much coat ....and show cats need a coat that cracks open....

Yep, Heather is correct. When you brush them too much (or use a Furminator) you thin their coat out. British are supposed to have a very dense, plush coat so a show cat would be penalised if its coat was to thin/flat. If you are showing, use a damp face washer and just wipe them down. This will remove any loose hairs but won't thin the coat.

We use the brush/comb that looks like a garden rake. When you first see it you just presume it will go straight through but it is great in getting out the under coat at the change of season like now.

Cheers
Julie
