Both of my cats have been sneezing quite a bit, for just over a week.
I was worried it may be Cat Flu, but there are no other symptoms though.
I work in a cat shelter, and all the cats that have Cat Flu there are sniffly, have watery eyes, sound like they're snoring while they sleep and seem like they're feeling a lot worse than my 2 kitties.

I've never had something like this happen, where both of them will start sneezing. Can they just be experiencing 'the sniffles'?

Is it possible for them to have the Flu without showing any other symptoms but sneezing?

Any advise would be great.

A fully vaccinated cat may only show signs of flu as sneezing yes......

Also adult cats dont seem to come down with it as bad.....

As it is viral you need to let it run its course........if they seem off there food, lethargic at all then you need to see a vet to treat the secondary infections that seem to come with flu.

Good luck,

Sue

I'm starting to get really worried about Lottie (My female cat that's been sneezing). My other kitty Maximus has stopped sneezing as much, and seems like his normal self.

Lottie has been sleeping more than usual, doesn't really want to go outside (not that i've been letting her anyway), and wouldn't eat any of the super fancy food i bought her (she usually LOVES it). She just wanted dry food, and has been drinking a LOT of water.

Another thing that is worrying me, is that she doesn't seem like her normal 'graceful' self. She usually jumps up on to my desk and sleeps next to my computer, she loves being around her mummy! But lately every time she jumps up, she falls back down, or knocks things over. Which she's never really done before.

I've only just started working, after being on a disability pension for years, so i don't have any money saved up to take her to the VET.

I get my first pay check from work this Friday, and hopefully i will have enough money to pay for a VET trip. I'm just worried she'll take a turn for the worse before i can get her to the VET.

And to make it worse ... I don't drive! Does anyone know a place i can take her in Melbourne that's cheaper than regular VETs? I know of Lort Smith, but its a long way to go without a car (I'm in Greensborough) and i'm not even sure if you can take a cat in a taxi sad.gif

Also ... Just so i know what to expect ... How much is a normal VET consultaion, and how much should i expect to pay for meds if it is the Cat Flu? (Like Vibravet or something, all the Cats at work that have the flu seem to be on vibravet tablets).

Sorry about all the questions, i need help!

You can actually take cats on public transport. We have done it before. We make sure to avoid peak times though and put something over the cage.

Firstly take a breath and relax. Stress from you will affect your bubs they can sense it just like we can.

You work in a shelter .... can they not help with a vet????

That's ok. What suburb/area are you in of Melbourne? Their are a lot of vet's that just simply travel to the client. They tend to be a bit cheaper as they don't have any overheads and medication is a lot cheaper as well. I have used a couple in the past for the dogs and found them really good. Also had them for the cat when an abscess appeared long before my cats became totally indoor cats. If you would like more info please PM me Sheryl

I was going to suggest Lort Smith if your funds are tight. They can apparently help people with transport now so it is worth ringing them. It sounds like you have unfortunately brought home a bug from the cats at the shelter (easy to do on clothes/hands).

Try the Cat Protection Society at Greensborough - Phone(03) 9434 7155. They may be a short walk or bus ride for you.

Antibiotics vary in price from vet clinic to vet clinic so I can't give you a close price, I've paid anywhere between $20 - $50 for mine and it depends on the amount that you are given.

You can take a cat on public transport or in a taxi. Just cover the carrier if you are on public transport and if you use a taxi tell them that you are transporting a cat in its carry box when you make the booking.

Good luck with the sneezing, just keep her warm and comfortable and make sure that she eats and drinks plenty. If you are struggling to get fluid or food into her, buy a tin of tuna in oil and give her that to eat. The smellier the better as their sense of smell takes a hit with flu. IF her eyes and nose get crusty wash them off with a warm saline solution.

With Lort Smith, I'm pretty sure you can make a deposit and make the payment after, like a layby.

You should just bring them to a consultation first, mine was done at the Cat Clinic, and I think it was about 40-50 bucks. And usually cat flu is triggered by stress, did you move recently? Or done something out of routine?

My cat sneeze every now and then - sometimes after when she is done at her litter box or when I put this particular D.O. on

Hehe. I work at The Cat Protection Society! I walk there 5 days a week! lol.

Our VET there is booked out ... We have waaaay too many kittens coming in at the moment, so we can't take any other appointments.

Thanks for you advise everyone ... I think i'll make the trip out to Lort Smith.

Lottie is a little better today ... still not taking any chances though, she needs to be checked out.
