I have a stray female cat that I've brought into my home - she was a regular in my backyard and got sick so I've been nursing her for a few weeks (can't afford a vet). She couldn't move for a while there, and I was having to make her drink water from an eye dropper just to get fluids into her.
Anyways, she got better, seemed fine and then I discovered she's pregnant, or at least looks it - very big belly, sway back, and her nipples are showing. That was ok - took it on board, found a place that will take kittys after they're weened, and a discounted desexing program for after, but now she's sick again.
Happened in just 2 days, she wouldn't come out of her little tent, and then I noticed she's not eaten, and she's back to not being able to move at all. She has gunk on her nose, and she's dribbling a lot. She still purrs when I pat her, and tries to have some water from the eye dropper still, but I need to know what is happening to her. I still can't afford a vet, and I know if I take her to the rspca and surrender her they'll just put her down.
I know that some of the stray cats around my place have FIV - could this be it and she's dying from it? If there is anyone that can help me please let me know cause I really don't want to loose her, especially after she seemed to get back to normal. She's a very affectionate little girl, for all that she's been abondoned and abused.

Poor Love she needs to go to the vets, it could be anything but i am sure a wonderful CW member will come along and offer more advice. It could be that she is going into labour or that somethign is wrong with the kittens. Maybe you could speak to the vet or a cat rescue and see if there is a way you can make payment or get cat rescue to assist. You dont say where you are located at

Your profile lists your location as Victoria. If you can get to the Lort Smith Animal Hospital in North Melbourne, they may be able to offer a payment plan to you. I'm not sure of the exact criteria to be eligible for a payment plan but give them a call and ask.
Nobody can really offer advice online about your sick cat - she needs to go to a vet for proper care. You obviously care very much about her and have done a lot already for her but a sick, pregnant cat needs a vet. You owe it to her to get her that help. There are some individuals on CW who do cat rescue - perhaps they can help?

Thanks guys - I found Lort Smith online and called them - they've said if I can pay a deposit they should be able to work out a payment plan smile.gif
Got an appointment with them at lunch, I'll report back and let you know how it goes - fingers crossed please!

I just wanted to add that I know being pts sounds harsh but if she is really that sick then it may very well be better for her
I hope all goes well at the appointment today though

Calyco
THANK YOU for looking after the mummy cat. Please keep us posted on the Lort Smith Visit and what they suggest can be done. I hope and pray for a positive outcome and for a loving home to all babies or if not just Kitty
