Not sure I know vet visit is imminent but thought I would ask fellow cat lovers. I have just discovered a lump on phoenix right side its under the skin oval shaped and not on the left side. Could this be the onset of PKD god I hope not I am worried sick Matt my OH is not home is working and I am tearing up here she seems normal eating running playing. I cant check her parents or breaders as she rescued from RSPCA and seized by them, so could it be please tell me not to worry I cant lose her and WONT!! I cant find anything about feeling lumps or kidneys swollen etc so some words of encouragement and CW magic that is nothing bad. Or could it be a cyst, hernia ?? or tumour god the mind boggles so many nasties it does hurt her when rubbed or touched

Why is this happening we love her with all our hearts

Worried mum Cherie

Doesn't sound like PKD- would not be under the skin- I could feel my PKD girl's kidneys as she became older- both sides- but deeper in her abdomen. She lived nearly 14 years with PKD and nothing happened quickly.
You should get Phoenix tested for PKD for your own peace of mind.
I tested my other cats- (one also a rescue with unknown origin)- through Gribbles a couple of years ago- $45 and just a cheek swab- even tested my boy whose breeder screened her cats with ultrasound before the DNA test was available.
There is another lab mentioned in the link at the top of the breeder forum.
Dont panic- I'm sure it is nothing serious
Let us know what the vet says

Bibby , Winscar & Jodess

thanks i know i have to breath Matt just came home for 5 mins before going back to the studio for work all night he said it feels like a cyst it moves and is in no discomfort to her, I have left a message for the vet probably cant see my wonderful Vet Chris until Friday after work as I dont drive and Matt is working on his new business everynight nothing unusual with that. He did say why did i touch her there and I dont know just giving her a pat and found this. Ok so PKD testing I think thats a definate at least I will know she is running around like a maddy at the moment chasing a flying insect. I just wish the RSCA could have informed us a bit more on the breader but ce la vie

Muchly appreciated and definately will keep you updated

Cherie

This lump could also be a very simple cyst- but please keep breathing and try not to stress. Good luck with your vet visit Sheryl

Winscar THANKS
I know i worry but this is odd and the sooner it gets looked at the better for all. You just feel helpless especially so late at night, I know you all understand your mind goes 100 miles per hour thinking of whatifs. She is sleeping on our bed at the moment all snuggled up as its so cold and its her fav place I just hope she snuggles with me tonight but she does like sharing the bed likes it for herself. Anway will log off now am exhausted fingers crossed for sleep as they were up to mischief last night when I am home alone i go to bed early as Matt comes home late iso they end up playing for hours with him not him with them.

I have to say I have googled everythimg but nothing comes to mind

will keep all posted and your magic is much appreicated

Oh I am so sorry, try not to stress but I understand why you are. (()) Is the lump hard or soft? Is Phoenix chubby? I found a lump a little while ago on one of my cats Munchy and pretty much had a heart attack then and there. Of course straight to the vet and we did bloods and they aspirated the lump and it is a Lipoma or Fatty cyst. The cause - being overweight...well his name is Munchy for a reason! smile.gif Anyway eventually he will need surgery to remove it because they can continue to grow but they arent cancerous or life threatening thank god. My vet told me as a general rule (not finite of course) if the lump is soft and pliable they are usually nothing to worry about but if it is hard then it can be something more serious.

Big hugs to you and Phoenix and good luck with the vet visit, keeping all my fingers crossed it is nothing to worry about.

I can just imagine how worried you are but keep calm and think positive thoughts. I once found a lump on one of my cats and it turned out to be the microchip which had travelled around under the skin!! I felt such an idiot!! LOL

No it feels like her kidney you can slightly feel it when she is standing but more prominient when she is lying on her left side as it is on her right. As for weight she is a tiny girl 4.2kg (and little fatty deposits on her ie belly and so she is not skinny but not fat just kitten chubbiness) probably due to all the issues earlier in her life with flu and various other symptons which the RSPCA would not devulge due to the privacy act. We have tried to get info but to no avail, I really think if they know the breeders and that there were issues with them then they should atleast inform people and new furry owners so we can make informed decisions about care and that our vets have more to go on. It could be that she has large organs due to her slight frame but will wait and see what the vet says so confirmed tomorrow 6pm vet visit but my wonderful vet Chris is onleave huh.gif with his kids so have to see another not sure about that but hopefully she will be as gentle as chris is with her. Will keep you posted probably tomorrow night after visit.
