Hello - I have a cat who is about 7 months old.

A couple weeks ago she was walking really funny. Her back legs wouldn't go up on her paws, and they were swiveling like she was drunk, but she didn't seem to be in any pain. I took her to a vet, but she couldn't figure out what was wrong with her. She took x-rays and nothing was broken, so they gave her some anti-inflammatory medicine and said to call a specialist if she didn't get better. Luckily, over the next couple weeks she did get better, and for the most part was walking normally.

I was out of town this weekend and had my neighbor feed her, and when I got back she was having trouble walking again. Last night she was on my bed, tried to jump down and just fell on the floor and laid there. This morning she would barely walk. She's also been eating slower and having trouble hopping out of the litter box.

Do you have any advice as to what I should do or what could be wrong with her? I googled some stuff and came up with a strained muscle or a torn ligament...it's just strange because she doesn't seem to be in pain, and doesn't cry out if I touch her legs. I'm thinking about taking her back to the vet, but I'm worried they won't know what's wrong again.

Has anyone else experienced something similar with their cat?

Thanks in advance - I'd really appreciate anyone's help.

First question is - What are you feeding? There has been a problem with some certain food that causes paralysis. I will see if I can find the topic.

I feed her Wellness grain-free canned food.

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to CW. I'm sorry that your kitten is not well.........but really apart from offering you support we can't do anything - we are not vets.....well most of us are not.....and it is impossible to even guess at what is wrong with her. Take her back to the vet and very soon..... there is something obviously wrong with her and she needs attention.

Let us know how she gets on....it must be a worry for you.

I will also move this to the Health forum.

Maybe you should try a different vet if you are not confident with the last one.

Heaps of CW magic for your kitty and please keep us informed.

I hope your Vet can find the problem.

If it's just a sprain or muscle damage, confining to a small area for rest is a good idea.

We had issues with Casper, he was biten by a snake. Had similar symptoms to your kitty.

Please get the kitten to a vet quickly, even to a different one if you weren't happy with that vets answers. If they don't do much, push for as much as possible!

Please see a vet again ASAP, perhaps a different one to the last time.

Hind leg paralysis can have very serious causes including thrombosis (blood clot...and these are an emergency), injury, neurological problem, toxicity, poisoning, tick bite, snake or spider bite, etc. Any type of bite is also an emergency.
ETA. Are either of the legs a bit cold? (this can indicate a clot)

I have been following this and it is very sad! I would definitely get a second opinion though. They are doctors so they should know how to find out what it is. Best of luck!! <3
