My ex, a vet nurse, found special square shaped and very shallow cat bowls designed to stop cats from eating too fast - unfortunately she took them with her when we parted ways. One of my cats has recently started eating too fast again (and puking up his unchewed food) and I really need to find these bowls again - google search has been no help! I feel really sorry for him throwing up almost every day and my housemates are getting kinda upset as he often pukes when I am at work, leaving them to clean it up sad.gif

Is anyone familiar with these bowls and where they can be purchased?

Are you talking about the silvery/grey coloured ones brought out as a special offer by Royal Canin ages ago?

For a quick fix, raising the bowl can stop them eating too fast.

Also, I've heard of people putting golf balls in the dish, so they have to work around them and cannot eat fast.

Thanks for the responses, this place is very helpful, so I will try to do my best to help other people where I can too smile.gif

Satchmo - yes they were a silvery grey, it was a few years ago now, maybe 3... are they no longer available..?

Taya - no, but they do look useful tho... does that one control portion size, or does it limit the ability to take larger mouthfuls? (It is hard to tell)

ChocDots - I will definitely try those suggestions, the golf ball idea is cool, I bet it would weird him out tho, he is such a sook, haha..

I have bowls that sit in a raised stand made by a lovely CW member who no longer frequents the boards. Prior to this I would sit their food bowls on Sydney telephone directories to get them up a bit higher as my old fella Oscar would always throw up and I attributed this to eating crouched down so low.

Ebay isn't that difficult anymore. Categories - Home- Pet Supplies

From there you can choose which pet, then what you are after.

I did that when trying to find the right scratching post for Henry.

I too find it hard searching for the pet bowl stands. Someone posted here a link for something and the company had fantastic stands but do you think I can find it LOL.

I dont want the stainless steel bowl stands or one's shaped like a bone!!!!!

I know they will probably be way to big, but I have one for my dog. It's called a brake-fast bowl, if you google it you will find them. They do a small but it will probably still be to big for a cat, but maybe you could contact the company to see if they have smaller ones?? Good luck

I think it's designed to prevent the gulping of food because they have to eat around the barriers. I have seen one somewhere that I simply can't find again that sort of had fingers that came up from the bottom of the dish so that cats had to lick or eat around the fingers rather than gulping it down. Here is another design http://www.drsfoster...mp;pcatid=20531 even though it's from a uk site, I thought it might be interesting because you could achieve the same sort of effect very easily with things you might already have at home - for instance you could put an upside down teacup, eggcup or tealight candle holder in the middle of a dish so that your meow has to eat around it. I've also heard of Chocolate Dots suggestion of using golfballs too.

if you are looking for raised bowls the Reject shop has them at the moment for a set of 2 for $10 they sit in a stand, I have greedy gobblers too I do find a dry with a bigger kibble is helpful, I use RC siamese (being that I have all oriental types), they chew it rather than inhale it! as for wet I used chunks of meat too.

I think i will try to grab some raised bowls from the Reject Shop, just heading into town now, otherwise those bowls aboutTaya has linked to both look really useful now that I understand how they work, maybe if he has to eat around the obstacles he will slow down... otherwise I can always try both, haha raised bowls with obstacles!

Thanks guys smile.gif

I have seen ones on legs which are wonderful for cats that take in too much air when they gulp the food down which causes them to vomit. Try either 00.com or deals direct they had some fantastic priced cat bowls. We use a smooshy faced bowl for my persian as she has issues burying her head in a normal bowl this one was $40 and semi circled and slightly tilted works a treat
