Hi all. My boyf's mom has a female DMH grey tabby (about a year old), when I last spoke to her, she told me her cat (named kitty.) has stopped calling for 2 months. She is completely indoors and not desexed. Can anyone explain to me why?

She didn't desexed Kitty (or even give any vaccinations! mad.gif ) because she is just in a bad bad financial situation for quite a while now.. It is a very long complicated and difficult story.. sad.gif

There are a number of things that could be going on a vet would need to have a look, is it at all possible that the cat might have escaped even for half an hour?

Cats often don't call monthly especially in their first year....so long as there are no discharges she is probably fine...

Where does your boy friends mum live - if she is in Melbourne she might be able to get a discount voucher for desexing from one of the Animal Aids - perhaps contact Dr. Carol Webb who may know the way to go.....it will be a very expensive process if the cat gets out and gets pregnant so better to try and pre-empt that one way or the other.

I have saved cats off Freecycle now and then and always send a desexing article to those wanting to rehome their cat and my suggestion is to put $5 to $10 a week away and save for it. Perhaps you can help her save a little??

I'm actually thinking of paying for half of her desexing fee but so much is really going right now in her life. She is not working, living off the state (yes she is in Melbourne), has a young child. I've spoken to her a number of times abt vet visits etc.. but I don't want to push her etc also, i think it would be quite disrespectful. She is home almost 24/7, her cat is completely indoors, has no scratching post sad.gif Kitty scratches the carpet (and she is renting..), I've bought Kitty a cat tunnel recently as her young child destroys the toys really, really fast.

I just dont exactly know how to approach this and tell her this without being disrespectful in any way. I don't want to seem to be on a moral high ground here and yes, I'm very concerned with her situation and she is very, very stubborn woman but i know she is a good person.
