IF you find one of the rescue groups like the rspca etc you will get the best value kitten possible, about $150 with all their vet work included, You cant do it your self for anywhere near that and your free kitten will be a very expensive one in no time
Good luck

I would go through one of the shelters or a rescue organisation. The kitten will be free, but you will be asked to pay for the desexing, vaccination, worming and flea treatment which will cost somewhere around the $150. If you get a kitten for free from anywhere else, you will end up paying a lot more in vet bills to cover the desexing, vaccs, worming and flea treatment. At least through a shelter you know the cat has been checked by a vet too.

I hope you come back and post some pics when you find your furbaby.

Free kittens aren't really, well... "free". They all have their costs i.e desexing, vaccinations etc.

There are, however, a few free to good home cats which have all their vet-work done and are being rehomed for private reasons that may require your love?

you can say that again!
I picked up a "free" kitty, my ex feral Boy, and within the first 5 months he cost me about $3000, of course I wouldn't have done anything differently, but I did used to joke that "those free kitties can be very expensive"
Good luck at the shelters, I am sure there are lots of adorable little ones looking for a new home.

Rescue kittens would mean you are saving lives. Petrescue, com lists those shelters with kittens and ONE of the shelters has NINE kittens from the same litter....they are GORGEOUS! $150 covers ALL their medical work and I bet you could get a discount if you were buying two. It's worth a try.

Also some of the shelters charge only $85 for young cats with all their vaccinations and desexed.

Good luck.

The Cat Protection Society of Victoria in Greensborough rehomes kittens for just $80 with all their vet work done.
As everyone else says, a free kitten is actually anything but free. I work as a Vet Nurse and you would be hard pressed to get much more than a vaccination and wormer for $80 at most Melbourne vets, let alone microchipping and desexing. Plus you will be saving a life when you adopt a kitten.
Also check out Petrescue and do a search for kittens in Melbourne and you will find lots of little fluffies looking for forever homes.

My older kitten who I found, so she didn't cost anything, cost us:
$182 for desexing
$25 for microchipping
$150 for 3 vaccinations
$20 in worming
And this wasn't including her check ups and allergy issues.
It really quickly adds up so definitely try to adopt one from the shelter smile.gif
