Hi everyone,
I have noticed a lot of CW members talk about natural remedies, and I want to get some advice. Little Phoenix nasal pasages are very tiny due to her peked face, she has issues with the nose blocking and breathing. We have discusses options with the vets and they said she will need to be on some form of meds for her whole life which I am not happy with. The reasons for this is the passages get blocked and she gets and little infection, her facial structure is so tiny and not much room. The other option is cosmetic surgery to widen and open her little flairs / nostrills. has anyone had any experience or done this before and can anyone advice of a natural remedy to the Meds as I dont want to keep on dosing her up every few months. As for the surgery I always worry when under a general and the pain after, I think they just open the nostrills, am waiting on the vet to get back to me on this and the procedure and cost

I did notice Heather has mentioned natural remedies so Heather if you read this any ideas please would be greatly appreciated.

Any other ideas would also be greatful. we just want her to be able to breath normally all the time, she gets blocked when she is playing a lot and as most persians the eyes go first then the nose. poor little poppit and with the new bub she will be going nuts LOL

I know of someone that has recently had surgery on their cat to widen the nasal passages...I will get on to her and get her to give you some info...I think it was laser surgery and the cat recovered very well.

I'm sure there would be something that would help, but the best thing would be to consult a vet who uses alternative therapies. Ryan (son) is currently using kali bich for nasal polyps but it doesn't seem to be having much effect. Think he also has nat mur to be used in conjunction... but if it doesn't clear up then he may be in for surgery. Or back to the homeopath to try something else!

Willow has some issues with snuffly breathing. She is Burmese, but the vet has said the same thing - that she has fairly small nasal passages and they block up. It's worse when she has been in dust or pollen. My vet said that I should take her into the bathroom with me when I shower as a matter of practice, just so she gets to breathe the steam in. I tend not to do this very often as to be effective I have to close the door and Willow hates that. However, when she is bad, I find the steam helps.

The main thing that helped remarkably is a homeopathic sinus remedy that I tried. I have been astounded at the results! I used the sinus relief formula - but I would suggest that you ring and talk to them first as each situation is different.

I would definitely try alternate before going the surgical route what do you have to lose and there is a good alternate practise not that far from you. All Natural Vet Care at Russell Lea - the two vets I have used there are great with cats there names are Joanna Milan and Barabara Fougere. Joanna has recently left but Brabara is still there. I would certainly at least get her to have a look and give you an opion if shw thinks surgery is the best option she will tell you that too and will be happy to work with your conventional vet.

I cannot speak highly enough about these people as they have helped me so much with Samson, and their formulas are amazing. As Lara, suggested give them a call and find out what they could do for you. It couldn't hurt to try natural first.

Good luck with whatever you decide.
