Hi all

I have been having a nanna nap with Princess, and she has insisted that I need a good wash! Why do cats lick you...I kinda understand why dogs lick you, but not so sure about cats.

As I said, might be a dumb question LOL?

lol Why do cats do anything that they do?

Maybe you have extra tasty fingers or it might be salty flavour of moisture from your skin. One of our cats love to lick toes if you are barefoot and will chase your feet around while you walk.

I personally think that if one of our cats do that they are plotting to murder us in our sleep!! smiley_lol.gif

That's how I've always seen it, that I'm just one of the gang who needs a cleaning.

Princess has always been a licker. Did I forget to tell you that haha.
Moe likes to come up in the middle of the night and kiss my eyelids. I think it is a sign of affection

I'm not a big fan of being licked... I can kiss them all I want though, probably not fair.
Kiri had the potential to lick, but I'd gently move her head and tell "no licking", she adapted though, she'd just stick her tongue out and leave it on my arm...and them look at me as if to say "sthee not licking, justh resthing my tongue"
made me laugh every time

The Count licks his mummy and when I brush him he sees this as a chance to groom me too, he wakes me up licking my face

I think it's partly affection / a sense of you belonging to his "family" so to speak, and also partly that our skin (especially if we're not 100% washed recently), tastes a bit salty. Cats LOVE salt.

I love being groomed by my cats. Always have, since I was a kid. I love the feeling. It's like a rough, scratching-an-itch massage, you know? I don't let it happen to my face or any "rude" parts (once I accidentally exposed my boob and Dweezil, who was lying on my chest at the time half asleep, licked it. AAAAGH!!!! It felt so wrong because the stupid purely physical part of my brain told me it felt GOOD and didn't know a cat was doing it! *gagging* LMAO Maybe this is TMI, but oh well, heheh), but anywhere else is a-ok by me. I tend to have to slightly shift the angle of whatever part of skin is being groomed after a while cause the repetition starts to hurt the skin. But I never move away entirely until they've finished. It just feels so good!! *hoping nobody thinks I'm sick* lol

I find this really interesting and yes I too like the love you thing.

Can someone maybe help me if you read my post ... it is everytime I sit/sleep with Ronan ... constant constant constant ... I have to actually remove him to another spot ..... he just licks licks licks. A bit is cute. Constant 24/7 is getting over the top.

Fleabag, HEHEHEH!!!! Yes, TMI, I know!!! (another time Monty was in our bed, down by my legs, and I farted and blamed him. He ran away. LMAO!!!! Ok, I'll stop now)

Winscar, wow...do you think it's a response to some sort of stress? A compulsive behaviour of some type? 10 weeks, eh? Hmm...that would be a bit disturbing. As much as I love a good groom session (as a kid, and still to a lesser extent now, I'll even stick my arm or foot in one of their faces while they're grooming themselves, hoping they'll groom me too. LOL!), to be licked CONSTANTLY would scare me a tad...it'd make me feel a bit nervous about being with him, which is sad.
