Are these diseases/infections transferred through/to humans or are they only transferred from cat to cat through direct touch?
I may be going to the shelter this weekend but I just want to make sure I don't bring back diseases to Chezz...

Cats can transfer ringworm to humans and then you could transfer it to Chezz. Also if you are handling cats with cat flu and then handle Chezz she could also get that.
It does make it difficult at times.

Both can be transmitted by humans to cats.

In that case; is there any way I can avoid carrying the infection back? i.e. Abstain from handling the cat directly or inquire about the health of the cat first?...

Come home spray yourself with disinfectant before going inside take your shoes off and spray them with disinfectant and let them sit for the longest kill time for what you are concerned about (will no doubt be ringworm). Once your inside strip off and go and have a shower and wash your hair, clothes into the washing machine with disinfectant rinse (will clean the washing machine and your clothes). Do not touch your cat till that's all done. Know quite a few people that use this method and they have yet to bring anythiung home.

yes, that is pretty much what I did when Kiri had chemo and he immune system was affected, I was scared I would bring something home and infect her, a friend of mine rescued to stray cats that both had severe cat flu, and I did the above every time I came home from visiting them.
A bit of a hassle, but worth it, I never brought anything home. Mind you the neighbours were occasionally treated to me in bra and undies at the front door as I would take my clothes off as well before walking in the door....LOL

I actually take this same precaution when I come home from shows.........spray me down with F10 it is a good disinfectant/virus killer....it is best to be 100% careful when going to shelters.

Good luck

I hate to sound silly but I really have no experience with disinfecting myself... (lol)
If anyone could recommend me what to use to spray & disinfect myself; I'm listening. (: (: (:

Can I get F10 from the supermarket (i.e. Woolworths/Coles etc) or do I have to go to special pet places for this product? (i.e. petbarn). Or is it only available from a chemist?

Sorry about all the questions... ):
