I am wondering if anyone has ever come across the following
I hand raised an abandoned feral kitten he was 5 days old when I began
taking care of him he is now 1 yr old

I have noted several things that are very amusing but I am curious
he drinks and splashes around in toilet bowl this includes if need be
him opening lid
He digs at his water in his bowl before drinking while all the time throwing water
all over the floor
He eats wet and dry food with his feet and when I say to him "Toby" you are
a cat he will eat with his mouth until your back is turned.
He has to be the cleanest cat in Australia because he takes a shower with me
every day this means in gets in under the water no matter what temp it is.

Has anyone come across this before I am fasinated by it not concerned.

He sounds delightful. Some cats are more water impressed than others and sounds like you have one of them. I have never had water mad cats - some breeds are more so than others...but I have had a cat that used her claws to pick up dry and wet food and would drink water from her paw. I thought it was very cute.

Wish you lived closer I could give you the challenge of hand raising a little Birman kitten that is only 2.5 weeks old and battling. I am discovering how hard it can be to hand raise a kitten so you did well to raise your toby.

Some cats just seem to like water - Turkish Van cats are well known for their love of water - and some Devons seem to like it as well. Like you said, nothing to worry about, but just need to be careful that his water loving ways don't lead hin into any trouble.

The food bowl may be because it is too small. Some cats do not like to eat out of a bowl if their whiskers touch the sides, so they work out a way to eat without that happening. Try giving him a bigger flatter bowl to eat out of and it may help that problem,

I have two water babies. They will both jump into the water bowl, splash each other and the floor. One of them is even insistent on all the tiles being wet.

Heather I have never hand raised a kitten but I HAVE hand raised puppies and I have a lot of free time for the next few weeks. If you need some help I am smart and learn quickly....just let me know.

And Toby does indeed sound very human....probably because he's imprinted on a a human Mummy since birth.

Heather I would love to but unfortunatly as you say we are to far apart
Toby actually does not use his claws at all it is like his
paw becomes a spoon.

Hi Heather
It sure is a big challenge rraising them from a young age Toby actually had a sibling when he came to me and I did what I could to raise them both but the other little boy died about a week after coming to me he was significantly smaller then Toby it was very hard to deal with I think because I had a year before lost my very best friend my girl cat Tessie who was poisoned by a neighbour who despises cats.. I hard a very hard time nt blaming myself thinking I could have done more and that came back with a vengance loosing Toby's brother but I had to keep reminding myself that I did my best and be thankful that at least the little guy got to experience being loved and did not die all alone as they both would have if they were not rescued.

I found Toby wouldnt take to a bottle he was too small for a bottle could not find a teet small enough for his little mouth when he first came so I substitued it for a needless syringe and Toby used them right up until he started eating solids. I had never raised any sort of baby animals like that until Toby and it was very tiring etc but would not take it back or him for the world he is my baby boy lol shh my girl might here hehe

i have a 1 year old, muffin, and she is a water lover. she loves running under the hose when i water the garden, and will paw at the shower door until u let her in.
she also likes to pick things up with her paw and bring it to her mouth. although its usually my dinner - not hers!
