Hi , I haven't been able to post for some days due to being incredibly busy with Samson and internet problems. Well the internet problems are fixed, lets hope for success for my boy.

I have decided to create a new post rather than continue on with the old one because when I see the topic title "Last Chance for Samson" it sounds pesimistic and I really want to be optimistic even though I worry contantly for my furboy.

Ok so now on with the update.

Since I last posted Samson has been to the vet twice more for his check up and manual expressing of the bladder.
No blockages both times. Phew!
On one occasion he did however have a big bladder , although not a tight one. Both the vet and I put it down to the fact that I had literally picked up a sleeping Samson and put him into the cat carrier and straight to the vet. He had not had time to go to the toilet.
The appointment was not long after I got home from work, so I had no choice but put a dozy cat into the carrier.
The vet managed to express the bladder and the urine was clear.

Samson enjoyed a lovely weekend and seemed happy, although peeing frequently but good amounts.
On Monday this week the vet rang me and I told him that I was quietly happy with Samson's progress.
Not more than two hours after hanging up the phone Samson had blood in his urine and seemed in awful discomfort. I upped his inflammation remedies to every ten minutes.
He did two hard round poops. Not normal.
He seemed to still be in pain so I managed to massage his belly and feel his bladder which was not large. I cried and begged Samson to let me know what was going on or to help me help him. I gave him some natural pain relief formula on his skin.
After awhile he went to his litter tray and did another hard round poop.
Both the vet and I conclude that Samson was constipated. After his last poop he was a little more settled and by morning his urine was clear again. Phew!

We went to the vet yesterday and this time the vet didn't have to express Samson's bladder as it was quite empty. I had taken Samson out in the yard for a walk with his harness on and he did multiple pees with good volumes.
The vet was cautiously happy with Samson but said that he is not out of the woods yet.
It really does seem that Samson may have a stricture.
I asked the vet if Samson's fast drip, drip method of peeing was normal because my female cat's pee comes gushing out like a hose.
The vet said that with Samson's very small opening and possible scarring, it was as good as it was going to get and he has to work with what he has got.

Samson had another injection of antibiotics and a jab of Pentosan. Samson does not take to kindly to this vet doing things to him. I think he remembers that it was the same vet who unblocked him. Lovely vet though, but Samson has memories now and plus he is a girl's cat and not used to men handling him. He seems calmer when the female vets handle him.
The vet said that Samson will have to stay on the anti-depressants for life.

Today Samson woke happily enough but had leaked a little during his sleep.
He had a spell outside this afternoon when I took him for another of his favourite walks with my dog. We live in a very quiet bushy neighbourhood.
When Samson came back from his outing, his urine was bloodied again.
So I am giving him his natural formulas intensively, which always help to clear his urine.
He seemed in a little discomfort and of course I again went into panic mode.
He did a little poop tonight, and I feel as though he was constipated again.
So I will have to look into something to help him with that problem. I did put a little olive oil into the syringe mixture to help him in the mean time.

Right this moment Samson is curled up on the lounge chair ,after a heavy kneading and purring session. He hasn't kneaded or purred like that in such a long time. I think I can sleep easy tonight.

He has another vet check up on Wednesday next week. So fingers crossed all goes well.
Every day, I am on pee patrol, syringe patrol, analysing behaviours and so on. Before each veterinary visit I panic at what they may find.
It is exhausting. I fear that he will block again, I fear the scar tissue, I fear inflammations.
It is like living with a time bomb.
I want nothing more than to surprise the vet who still has a look of despair and caution on his face.

Samson's fluid intake has increased dramatically in the past few weeks, so that is a big plus with his problem. The only way I can get him to drink, is to put a couple of splashes of pet milk into filtered water and swish it around. Samson is not big on water, so whatever it takes I will do it. In fact all the pets in the household are drinking more these days and I am constantly having to clean out litter trays. It's a full time job.

As well as Samson going to the vet on Wednesday, I will be taking Riley in to have her operation. Thank goodness my mother is paying for that one because the bill threatens to come to triple the amount I payed to spay her a year ago with the old vet.
The operation is apparently more involved this time with a bigger incision and they need to search under kidneys and all over the place for leftovers.
It needs to be done, for the sake of not only Riley's well being but to lesson Samson's stress levels when she comes into season all the time. It might stop Toms coming under the house if there is no female on heat around.
I am stilll annoyed that there may be left over bits in Riley. I am annoyed about a lot of things the old vet did, but wont go into them here.
If I had my time over again and with my current knowledge, I would do things differently.
I kick myself, but what is done is done. I have found a good vet now, so I will stick with them.

Oh Riley wont know what has hit her come Wednesday. She will have to stay in overnight. It will be fun and games getting her into the cat carrier and then taking her out at the vets. She still doesn't like to be picked up. I can envisage lots of scratches.
I have warned the vet that she was feral. She has come a long way and loves pats and rubs up against my legs, but it must be on her terms.

So that is all the current news in a nutshell.
Still battling on with Samson, but thankfully no blockages. I still live my life on tenterhooks.
Outwardly Samson appears happy and normal but for the frequent trips to the litter tray.

Here are some current photos of Samson since his recent blockage.
Waiting for dinner
Watching birds with his sister Miette
The cave Samson made himself tonight in front of the heater
Where Samson is sleeping as I post this. He made another kind of igloo bed for himself.

Thanks for the CW magic, please keep them coming.
Hugs to all,
Carmen xx

You and Samson have been on one heck of a journey together! Looking at his beautiful shiny coat, you'd never believe the traumas he's been through. He's lucky to have you.

It does sound though that there is cause to be cautiously optimistic.

Sending you, Samson and Riley lots of catmagic3.gif catmagic3.gif catmagic3.gif

Samson you sweetheart bug hugs to you. What a journey.

kittycoo is Riley calling? It will help if she is. My Sapphy had the same thing. If she hadnt been calling they would never have found the tiny little pea size bit that was missed the first time. PM me if you need to.

What a journey, but even though it's a time consuming one for you, to see Samson happy & purring must be worth every minute. Pats to your special boy & more catmagic3.gif

Glad to hear everything is going ok'ish. catmagic3.gif catmagic3.gif catmagic3.gif catmagic3.gif

As I have said before you are a decided fur-mum.

As I read about Reilly I thought of Trish and Sapphy. I remember her saying that if Sapphy hadnt have been on call at the time of the operation then they would never have found it. Glad she came along to post this. Maybe talk to your vet about that. I would hate for them to have a really long poke around in her to find nothing.

Good luck with it all.

Heaps more CW magic for dear Samson and also for Riley. You are such a caring and loving cat mummy - they are so lucky to be with you.

Try some slippery elm for the constipation or metamucil. Speak to your vet about quantities but I think it was a quarter teaspoon (slippery elm) mixed into a tablet form with water. It is a natural remedy and is not harsh.

Thanks!

I had just read your post and thought "OH no!".
So I just got on the phone with the vet and raised the concerns. They are in the opinion that Riley will remain "in season" for awhile because she hasn't been properly mated since Samson is not an intact male.
Something about an induced something or other. ??????
They reckon it will be ok to wait until Wednesday.
Otherwise if I was worried I could bring her in on Monday. There is a different vet on duty that day and I know that the vet I spoke to is the head surgeon and he specifically wanted to be the one to do the operation on Riley. He said he has done quite a few similar operations on cats that had been spayed elsewhere. To this date he has never left anything behind himself. So fingers crossed that all goes well.

Samson update: Clear pee this morning. Yay! Good night sleep and looks happy.
Riley is in solitary confinement and doesn't know why mummy is being mean to her.

I on the other hand, have another bug and am off to the GP in just a mo. Sick of being sick!!!

OK, I have some slippery elm powder that I used when one of my kitties had diarroeah. I didn't know that I could use it for constipation. I have some metamucil on hand too.

Thanks for advice and for CW magic.

catmagic3.gif catmagic3.gif catmagic3.gif catmagic3.gif catmagic3.gif Carmen I can really empathise with the rollercoaster of exhaustion and the overwhelming emotions you are going through dealing with the issues surrounding the health of your two precious little ones you face every day-it is a journey like no other. I am sending lots of CW magic for your two little ones today and hugs for you as you go thru each day caring for their needs. Look after yourself and get lots of sleep, eat well and do something relaxing for you every day-bubblebath and a nice CD on, a nice glass of wine or watch a DVD you like. My prayer group are praying for you and your furries from today.

I have only noticed two pees in the litter tray today from Samson. Clear which is good, but now I worry because he had previously been going to the loo very frequently each day.
He was outside in the back yard enjoying the sunshine today and I just don't know if he peed there. I normally see him doing something, but I may have missed it today.
He seems OK outwardly, so am I panicking for nothing? Maybe his irritable bladder isn't so troublesome today hence the less frequent pees. I just got so used to him going ALL the time, which I know is not normal. He was going sometimes 4-5 times in a short space of time.
He ate his dinner tonight, drank a lot and seems generally in good spirits. His face doesn't tell me he is in discomfort. So I am probably just a worrywort.
I got so panicky that I massaged his tummy tonight and sat him in his litter tray to see if he would do anything. He did.

I think all this is starting to mess with my mind. The constant watching, medicating, worrying is getting the better of me. I don't know whether I am Martha or Arthur any more. Paranoia sets in about the possibility of blockages.

Riley is still in confinement tonight. I let her out for a spell this afternoon while Samson was outside in the yard. Roll on Wednesday.

Ah, just needed to get all that off my chest .
I am feeling less than ordinary, the GP diagnosed sinusitis with the possibility of the onset of flu . Great! I just feel like a little TLC that's all ill.gif

Oh Carmen flowers.gif I've just cleared a bout of sinusitis, it's never fun. It really doesn't help when you're trying to think clearly and be calm about things and your head feels like a throbbing, ringing, fuzzy weight on your achey neck. Right now I'm sure you're Arthur and Martha!! Is it possible that Samson is peeing a bit less both because he did something outside and because some of the new therapies you're trying are making more of an impact now he's been on them for a while? At any rate, make sure you eat well, rest as much as you can - don't forget to take your medicine, and I do hope you're feeling better and more on top of everything soon. bearhug.sml bearhug.sml bearhug.sml
