some people may remember, i posted a similar topic a few weeks ago. My little Jackson was having sudden diarrhea with blood in it. I rushed him off to the emergency very who put him on antibiotics and some liquid to stop the runs. That seemed to work fine, and I took him back to my normal vet a week later for checkup and to fix up a case of earmites.

Well just happened to notice when I was in the laundry where there tray is, that jackson had a small bit of blood in his poop, just minus the runs this time. I only noticed as he was in there with me and managed to get a bit on the edge of the tray which upon investigation was bright red blood.

Ive rang the vet and he said to remove his food for 12 hours and keep him hydrated. If its still bloody in the morning to take him down to the vet. Hes happy otherwise and playing with the other 2.

Any ideas what it could be?

Taya had bloody diarrhea because of an allergy to bird protein - even after the removal of bird protein from her diet it took a while for everything to heal properly inside. She would get a little blood on decent stools until she had healed. A further complication after having diarrhea is that a meow may then have to push a firmer stool harder then they have been, again flaring up anything that had healed or causing a little tear itself. Sounds like your vet is very keen to get on top of this, which is great. What helped us was a very thorough record of input and output. Perhaps jot done everything he has had to eat recently, take a look at the ingredients too. You might be able to spot a trend. For example, Jackson might be able to tolerate a food with crab meat every now and then so you might not initially suspect it, but two or three times in one week might be too much. I do hope he's just had too push too hard and he's okay catmagic3.gif

thanks for the advice abouttaya smile.gif

Was only a small amount of blood and only on the outside of the stool, so thats why the vet isnt too worried just yet. It could be just like you said, a bit of blood from a flare up and not having fully healed yet. Ive been very carefull with his food and not changing it or mixing it up too much, and giving bit more RC dry than wetfood.
Im gonna take your advice and record everything he eats and check the ingredients.

if you go off to the vet take the stool with you, I know gross but if you just pop the poop in a clean container is much easier to look at a stool then you try to describe it
