My has a wound on him that looks like the flesh was torn off revealing his meat about the size of a baseball. This was found above his right leg on his side on Monday Nov. 2nd. Today (the 8th) I found another wound the exact same look on his leg on the same side, at what would appear to be the back of his `knee`. It was definitley not there before, as I had checked his leg when I noticed the first wound to make sure it was not broken because we thought he might have been hit by a car or in a fight with another animal. I am wondering now if this might be a disease.

Hi
welcat.gif
You REALLY need to take your cat to a vet to treat the wounds in case of infection even if it isn't a disease.

I have been cleaning the wounds and putting neosporin with a wrap when he doesn't lick it off and pull the gauze out of the wrap. The first wound seems to be healing now and seems to be scabbing over. We don't have the money to take him to the vet until Friday. Literally, we only have 8 dollars. sad.gif

Oh I am really sorry about that.... Could he have been in TWO fights in a week? Is he desexed? If not...there's your problem...

Good luck...we can't give veterinary advice but there are lots of experienced vet nurses on here and they may be able to help you.

Can you call a vet and see if they will give you a little leeway or some advice over the phone....it does not sound good and he does sound like he needs to see a vet. I guess it is possible the other wound was there but the hair as come off later but I am not a vet and would not like to guess.

Is he eating ok? Can he get around without too much pain? Is he using his litter box regularly and normally? It sounds awful.

He needs to be confined to not be roaming around on it in the smallest area you have - the more he is roaming on it the longer it will take to heal, and also gives the greatest risk of picking up an infection.

You really need to speak to a vet to see if there is anything else you can do until you can get him there.

Liz

He has been inside in the bathroom since we found the first spot. He is eating normally and using the btahroom regularly. He only seems to be in pain when I try to clean the areas. He walks with a bit of a limp. I have never heard of this with a cat and have had cats since I was a kid, so I am perplexed. I know he wasn't in another fight, as he has stayed inside. I am pretty confident the second spot wasn't on him before.

I think you should get your cat to a vet before Friday. I know it can be a challenge fiancially but there is help available.

CareCredit provides NO INTEREST loans specifically for verterianry bills.

hi vet bills can be costly sometimes , im no vet either but if it was me in that situation i would ask the vet for credit if not bathe in salt water twice a day and try and get some betadine or antisepic cream on the wound , maybe they were absesed and burst to be on either side like i said im no vet , give them a ring you never know he may be kind and let you pay friday , good luck kay

He is doing much better now. The places are getting a scab to them and there doesn't appear to be any infection. I have kept cleaning it and putting neosporin on it. We have over used loans and we are in debt really bad. I think he is going to be better. He is moving around a lot more now and he has stopped licking the wounds.

A cat with wounds the size of a baseball, as you have described above, needs to see a vet urgently, regardless of cost. Ask about a payment plan, or if they can perhaps give you credit temporarily.
