Well, lately Monty seems to be even more piggy than usual. In the last 5 days he's gulped down his tinned food so fast he sort of half chokes on it and then ends up throwing it up. He's done this twice, poor little piggy. lol. And the chunks of thrown up food (sorry, ugh) are not even chewed! After the first time, we mashed up any larger pieces of food so there were no large ones, but he still threw up. We only give them small amounts...we don't really want to give them (him) any less...

Also, I noticed last night when he was eating his dry biscuits (Advance), he was gorging so fast, at one point he was making these noises as if he had some stuck in his throat or couldn't quite get them swallowed properly. I was on the toilet at the time (again, sorry lol), but clapped my hands loudly once to sort of hopefully "shock" him into swallowing. It worked, but I'm now worried that he may choke on these biscuits when I'm not around!!

I know it's fairly normal for kitties to stuff themselves, but...has anyone ever actually choked on their biscuits before? lol *paranoid mother*

I have this sometimes particularly if I give them mince - they eat it so fast then bring it back up in the form of a unchewed meat sausage.... Pigs!!

Could you try putting his dry biccies in one of those small feeders - they only get a small amount out and have to fish more out with their paws!!

Do you leave out biccies 24/7 for him? I saw a special plate that was used for cats that pig out and eat too fast, the idea was to make it hard for them to get at it all at once, so it had compartments in it, like this.

That's a GREAT idea!! We don't actually leave them out 24/7...well, we sort of do...what we do is we fill their bowls (one bowl each) at about 9.30am (they have breakfast at 6am-ish on weekdays, later on weekends), and these biscuits often last them until dinner. We actually notice that they'll have a few biscuits left and then about 30 minutes before dinner, they'll go and eat them, as if to say to us "Look! We have no food left. Dinner please!" lol

Then they have their dinner at 6pm (except Fridays when they have it at about 7pm), and we re-fill their bowl (which sometimes still has some biscuits left from their 9.30am feeding) about 10.30pm-11pm. This lasts them all night usually. Sometimes there are no biscuits left in the morning but usually there are some in each bowl.

So...yes, that feeder is excellent. I think we'll be getting that.

Yeah I suggest the fedder or my idea is:
Only give them a small amount at a time out of the can... like one small spoonfull and feed it to the piggy one (cat)... then keep repeating this. Evntualy he will learn/get the point that he has to eat slower and that his going to get the same amount sooner or later and eat normaly. Also have you seen the other cats trying to steal his food? Maybe there was a past experiance were this happened now he feels like his has to scoff it all down and have it all to himself. Do the Cats have seperate food bowels? if they dont I suggest this.

Thanks,

Yep, we have 2 cats and they each have their own food bowls. Monty (the piggy one) actually will try and steal Dweezil's food, not the other way around! Dweezil lets him eat and stands back usually, unless he really wants whatever the particular food is.

Monty came from the AWL and was in the pet shop (AWL associated one) with one other cat, and they were from the same litter. He was 12 weeks or so when we got him, so I don't know if he had his food stolen before. He actually didn't start being a pig till fairly recently. Dweezil used to eat certain meals too fast and throw up, but not others, but he doesn't seem to do that anymore (they're both 1 now).
