Riley had her operation today and is back home. She is always seeking out Samson for a bit of comfort. He obliges with a sniff and a lick.
She isn't eating but seems alert and is not trying to get to her stitches. I even managed to sit her on my lap for a while ( with a strong hold) while I gave her a massage and put a few drops of Emergency Essence on her neck. I have never been able to hold her, so I made the most of it.

The vet found a little ovary tissue on each side. I have the samples in a jar in my cupboard. The vet said that I could get the lab to test the sample to prove that it is ovary if I wanted, otherwise I can monitor Riley to see if her behaviour improves. It is tempting, but I don't need any extra fees right now, so I will wait and see how she is. I am still annoyed that I did the sensible thing and got my cat spayed over a year ago and now I have had to fork out big bucks to finish the job! I did get quite a big discount but............ SHEESH! mad.gif

Riley behaved herself at the clinic, making a liar out of me. When I got her home and opened the cat carrier door, I was expecting her to be so groggy that I could at last have my first ever proper cuddle with her. But no, she shot off like a bullet and hid under the spare bed for hours. I just left her to it figuring she will come out when she was comfortable.
I couldn't even survey the "damage" until hours later. Every time she walked by I would try to see where the stitches were and if they were still in place. Riley didn't come home with a cone. Silly me, I was expecting the stitches to be on the side of her body like her original spay. I hadn't realised that they ran along the front of her tummy this time. doh.gif
Since Riley wont let me pick her up I have to sneak a peak when I can.

Of course Miette is having a field day hissing at both Riley and Samson as they both have the smell of the vet cllinic on them. She can be a little minx sometimes. Little Miss Healthy! Well I should be thankful at least one of them is problem free ( touch wood) but she doesn't have to rub their noses in it. eyebrow.gif

Riley goes back to have her stitches out in ten days and Samson will go along for another check and injection. Honestly the clinic is starting to feel like my second home. I will be happy when I don't have to go so often any more. My weeks are filled with vet appointments for Samson, Physio appts. , pilates appts. and GP appts. for me as well as getting to various client's homes daily. Argh! Enough with appointments already!!!
Sorry, having a meltdown at the minute. blink.gif

Well that is the latest news.

Hugs to all bearhug.sml

Oh goodness! If I can catch her I certainly will. hee hee

Geez these wild cats are made tough. You wouldn't know that Riley had had an operation the way she behaves. She is as tough as nails.

Hope that is all her ovarian tissue gone - they would have been able to see and reach more with a midline which is why they would have done it like that. Is this the same vet that did the original spay as if it is IMO they should have been doing it for free if they missed ovarian tissue on both sides in the original desex. If not you are lucky they gave you a discount as this type of op is more complicated than a nornal spay.

Hope she acts like she has been properly desexed from here on in.

Glad she is home and that they found something.

Sapphy had the same cut down her tummy when she went in the 2nd time. And as soon as they opened her they saw it as she was in call at the time. Just remember it may take a few weeks for her to settle from not calling although with Sapphy it pretty much stopped her straight away.

I was lucky with her that as she was a rescue the organisation were more than happy to pay for the op and allow me to take her to my vet who also chipped in and did it for the cost of the rescue's vets charge.

No it wasn't the same vet who did the original de-sex. I never want to go to her again. I have changed vet clinics. Although I had wondered what stand I could have taken with the the previous vet. I am confused whether it is just "one of those things" or negligence. confused1.gif
Anyway, I would not trust her to do the operation again. I am finished with her. ranting.gif

Of course my current vet doesn't want to play the blame game, but he said that in all his time he has never left anything behind in a de-sexing op.
I have a lot more faith in the current vet so I am hoping everything will be ok from now.
He quoted me $350 which is what I paid, but when I got the bill I noticed it was discounted by over $220! It should have been over $570! I paid around $120 for the original spay.

No calling from Riley so far. She was never very vocal when she wanted to mate , just a very quiet subtle Brrrrrrrrrrrr and then Samson would spring into action.

Lets hope this is the end to it all. doh.gif

Carmen,I hope everything starts to settle down now with your two time and money consuming cats.Hopefully Riley the little 'tartlet' stops try to seduce sweet innocent Samson.

You deserve some respite from visits to the Vet Hospital. It will however be a life long vigil in the wee department. Maybe finally there is some good light at the end of the tunnel and not another on coming train :-)
