Hi, i was wondering if anyone would be able to help me.

My gorgeous cat passed away today, leaving behind 4 beautiful 1 week old kittens. I am in desperate need of a mother cat to help raise them as i dont have the time to be doing all the feeds and to give them all the attention they will need. I was wondering if anyone maybe had a cat that had recently given birth that i could foster or even keep? Im more than happy to take in her kittens aswell. I just dont wont anything to happy to my babies, they are all i have left.

Any help would be great.

Thank you.

oh thats so sad you must be devistated what happened to her? you will need to tell everyone where you are located so they can work out whos closest to help! the kittens will need round the clock feeding and toileting until you find a new mumma for them or the will dehydrate really fast you also need to be keeping them really warm good luck

Sorry i havnt replied sooner, just been very busy! Feeds every 2-3 hours really takes it out of you!
I havnt found anyone to help, just been coping by myself. Most people are telling me that another cat wont take to them, so i dont know what to do. So far i think im doing okay. The are feeding a lot better for me, but i need to go back to work this week so i dont know what im going to do. I have been told now to that i will need to start giving them baths as well, which im worried about because of the importance of keeping them at a good temperature. Any tips would be great!!

Thanks so much.

One of the breeders here will surely give you advice. They are two days old and need the mother bathing them. This means simulated licking.... wet some cotton wool balls in warm water...squeeze them out and then stroke the kitten, AGAINST the hair ( so it sort of stands up) all over the kitten. Pay particular attention to the damp stroking on the genitals....just gently turn the kitten over in your hand so that you can massage the tummy and then "lick" the genitals with the damp cotton wool. This is how kittens learn to wee and poop. You will need to do this for quite a few weeks. Also, what are you giving them to eat? Rather than a premixed kitten milk in a carton which can go off ....better to get a powdered baby animal formula and mix that. You may need nutridrops too to give them a kick start. They are not expensive and I think probably saved little Mighty Mouse's life....Perhaps one of the breeders on here who is closeby could give you some advice on the phone.... it's a bad time as all are busy with kittens. It's really difficult I know...but don't give up....even if you only save one that will be a very precious cat to you.

Thanks CoralD for the advice.

I am using the BIOLAC Formula.

I have got the toileting worked out and they seem to be feeding much better. So far so good. =)

Good luck with them - Nutridrops are almost essential - a mother cat with just one or two similar age kittens would probably take them if you were to rub her - especially around her tail area and then rub them and mix them in with her own kittens......and stay calm and easy yourself.

It is a humungous task to rear babies by hand and going back to work you are going to need help....speak to your vet and see if they know of anyone who is experienced with hand rearing - some of the foster carers are for AWL and RSPCA.

Also try advertising on Gumtree or even Freecycle and see if you can find a mum cat with new born kittens. Which area are you living in.
