THE RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who have been ill and old are restored to health and vigour; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; you hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Somewhere on here, there is a link to an animated version of the poem, with a music track. I had a good cry myself, then made a huge mistake in playing it for Ben.... he sobbed uncontrollably for about 20 minutes cry_1.gif

Could this be pinned to the top of this forum? It kind of says it all, and explains the Rainbow Bridge to anyone who doesn't know.

As metioned in your other thread, this is one best left up to Julia. The rainbow bridge story isn't always to everyone's tastes and beliefs, so I'll leave it to Julia to decide if she wants it to head the forum.

It matters not how many times I read this poem, every single time, it makes me cry all over again. A mix of both sadness, and happiness that they are waiting for us and never forget us.

I agree. It really is a heartwrenching poem, but it gives you a sense of hope as well.

Thanks Julia for pinning this for all C-W'ers to see.

Adele.

Just read this lovely poem and had a cry over my baby Taz, he sadly was put to sleep on 21st August aged 12 years, not a day goes by I don't miss him.

I absolutely love this poem and never cease to shed a tear or two every time I read it. It is so touching. It makes you cry; but warms your heart at the same time.

I am not personally religious, but this poem is so touching.

Foof died in my father's arms after a long and loving life and it's comforting to think of him being "happy and content" wherever he is.

Thank you to the forum staff for posting this, I believe it can bring comfort to anyone in mourning irrespective of personal beliefs smile.gif
