One of the members here gave me this tip, - thanks Doreen, and it works really well.
Instead of buying the Feliway diffuser which is $72 (i.e. works out at $30 for the plug in thing) I bought a Feliway refill for $42 and a Mortein mozzie zapper. The Feliway bottle fits in well to the diffuser, and I've saved myself $25. Plus, if I stop using the Feliway I've got myself a mozzie zapper!

Ah yes .... I think it was Catherine (Cats of Amarin) who figured that one out ages ago ... or at least that is what she told me 
Remember though to buy the day time mortein diffuser as it is cheaper to 'run' than the night time one
Oh and Sara is correct ... the Vet shed sell the refills much cheaper than anywhere else I've found, but I ordered 6 from there the other day and the price has gone up to $32 for the refills.

OK Eleanor - buying 6 you obviously use them all the time and I want to know if you have ever noticed a difference if you don't have them on to when you do have them on...I use them sometimes but am a bit unsure whether there is a difference.

In preparation for the two devons coming home in 6 weeks I ordered one diffuser for around $72 and a refill for $32.
I should have just bought 2 refills then 2 mortein plug ins.

I bought one diffuser, plus one refill from the Vet shed. But i'm not finding much improvement in Bailey's temperament. I'm looking at putting him on some stronger meds. He is calmer around it, but then that could also be due to the fact Kenny isn't pestering him...

Heather I run at least 3 24/7 (sometimes more) ... to be honest I was sceptical at first, but I perservered ... and I think what it does is takes the 'edge' off a multicat environment - where tempers can get excited quite quickly. I have noticed a difference - I only now have spraying in the house when the local cats desend upon the veranda (although that is better now we have the veranda enclosure ).
I think it works ... I do remember using it in the UK and I didn't think it worked at all ... I also use the feliway spray for certain situations.
I haven't not had them running since March, so I don't can't say if there would be a difference to having them or not now. I do know having them has made a difference though - a calmer household (but remember I do have some very highly strung meezers ... Penny Poo springs to mind) ...
I also have to say that I think you need to use them for at least 8 weeks to notice a significant improvement ... they are not a quick fix, but unfortunately their price can make them too expensive to continue to use them.

I asked the Sydney dog and cat home if they'd mind if I donated these diffusers to the cats room. I figure that with all those un-desexed animals crowded into a small space, anything which could calm the poor things down will help. Anyway, they said yes, so I'm going there on Friday (when I'm next off work) to plug one in. It will be interesting to see if it makes a difference to the behaviour. My theory is that if it does, the cats will be more attractive to "shoppers" and might have a better chance of rehoming. (it's also my penance for having bought Lily, a pedigree kitten instead of taking on one of the cats there - I feel guilty).

I had never heard of a Feliway diffuser before CW, and I have never had a serious problem with any of my 10 cats.

Where do you guys buy your Mortein diffusers? Both the Coles and Safeway near me don't have them! They only have the one where it's for those foil tab looking thingy that you slot into a diffuser and not the liquid one

^ Yes, good question! I bought the diffuser from Vet Direct, but haven't yet hunted down the mortein bit

I know this is a really old thread but it is the mortein diffuser with the foil thing. There is a screw in bit at the bottom.
Thanks very much for the tip! Came in very handy as my vet only had the refill and not the diffuser!
