Have had it with those crazy MATTS!!! Tried something different- A 'Stitch Ripper' (sewing tool) works awesome. My vet warned that she sees way too many cat owners coming in for emergency repair on kitty's skin whose owners have tried to cut matts out with scissors, accidentally cutting the tender skin. I had a thought to use a stitch ripper, carefully feeling for the skin below the matt, just poked through the mat itself and with a slight upward tug - was able to instantly dismantle a couple really nasty matts. 3 or 4 passes through the matt, and a once over with the pin brush...ALL GONE.

Let me know if you try this method and what you think........ rolleyes.gif

this tool is also know as an unpicker its great for helping de-matt a long haired coat, my friend had her mother in law bring me one out from Mumbi its about 7 inches and the pick is also large

Perseverance, patience and time will help get out those matts,

The stitch picker is excellent for cutting through mats, but your vet was right be very careful because there are many cats that end up having to be stitched up themselves. Cat skin cuts very easily.

I have one I used, I took a bit off the points so less likely to stab the cat with it, you do need to be careful with them and they work very well. I've now got another tool so don't use the quick unpick anymore. I found it a bit fiddly and time consuming, that was the only downside for me. I have problems with my hands so I can't hold anything for too long.
