Question About Oriental Cats
#1

Hi there,
I'm new on this forum. I came across it, whilst browsing on the Internet for specific info about Oriental cats, but haven't found exactly what I'm looking for...
Would anyone be able to advise on the following: we recently became the proud human parents of two kittens, a Tabby Point Siamese and a Ticked Tabby Oriental. They are brothers from the same litter, born in late July 2007.
The Siamese is very talkative and is developing a wonderful deep miauw. We have read that Orientals have essentially the same characteristics as Siamese, including being very talkative. Our Oriental is growing nicely, is highly intelligent, very busy and active, but not that talkative. He also has the sweetest, musical little miauw you have heard!
I am wondering if it is perhaps a characteristic of the Tabby Oriental not to talk a lot. Either way, we really don't mind, but we are just curious, as all the literature seems to say that the Orientals are as talkative as the Siamese.
Many thanks,
NinaB

I think when people say the orientals and siamese are LOUD it really means they CAN BE loud. There are always individual differences between the kitties. I have an oriental X who is a talker when she has something to say but she has the sweetest little meow, but I put them down to the 'X' in her! I also had a siamese X who was also very quiet, hardly spoke. I absolutely love siamese and orientals. Any chance you will post some pics?

Hi there
I am a lover of the Siamese and Oriental. I am also a qualified vet nurse and have owned Siamese and Orientals all my life. You will find that some Siamese are not as talkative as others and the same goes for the Oriental. The Oriental is just a solid colour of the Siamese so it is essentially the same breed but they used to just breed the solid colour, like black, brown and white but have now got all these other varieties which I think is great. I just love the breed.

Hi there. I have a chocolate Tabby Point Siamese and his litter sister a Chocolate Ticked Oriental, they are 8 months old now. Kobi (Siamese) is very vocal when he wants me or something to eat, I wouldn't say annoyingly loud though, Nala the Oriental, has 3 very different meows, her latest is a meow that you could take it that a Crow is in the room. It's very weird. I think as they get older their meows will increase more with sound!!

Ooooh LOVEly a thread about Siamese and Orientals. Right. I'll try not to go on and on
Colette, my blue point, is a REAL talker. And she has the Siamese growly yowl. She is a true Siamese (i.e. in NSW Cat Fancy terms that means 8 generations, personally I think that's all a bit precious, no offence to anyone, but I always thought of Cleo as a Siamese too) Cleo is (I should say was, but I can't bring myself to, yet) a lilac lynx point colorpoint and had Orientals and "true" Siamese in her bloodline. She had blue eyes though. She had a softer mew and was generally less talkative (oh God I miss her pretty apologetic little mew). She was generally a softer and more retiring, introverted and less demanding purrsonality. Colette is very demanding particularly where food is concerned so I hear a lot from her. Colette is missing Cleo's company and is yowling quite a lot at the moment. I'm hoping she will settle down as I don't feel ready yet to welcome a newcomer. But being so minder-focussed (as blues tend to be apparently) she is great company and very comforting to have around at this sad time. No shortage of attention for me.
And belated welcome, Nina, your cats are gorgeous.
