I saw those when we first got our kits and I was researching different designs to make my own. Doesn't look like the kind of thing mine would use. Too much skill needed to balance. 
Yes, I suspect the biggies might find it a bit challenging - but I think the bubs would love it somehow!
Yes, I was a bit partial to No 3 too Leanne! Having paid that for the last scratchign post I thinkit would have to be road-tested beforehand...

That's a very cool idea. I'd want to know how stable they are. We have a 6 ft tall cat condo that is very heavy, but the kittens still manage to rock that baby when they climb it! We're considering putting some kind of stabilizers on the base because we're concerned they're going to tip it over one day, and that would be quite a crash.

Yes, I want to see them first re the stability thing...but they could be nice in the kitten pen regardless...
