The vet clinic where I work received a postcard from Washington, USA. The postcard gave us a link to a website:
Cat In A Tree Rescue

This website has been created by a guy called Dan Kraus who has a cat rescue service for felines and other animals stuck up trees. The website gives advice on what to do when a cat is stuck up a tree and provides a directory of skilled tree climbers from all around the world (including Australia & NZ) who can be contacted if you need help.

This is a great help thanks BL. Maybe it should be pinned for future reference in case of emergency.

On RSPCA Animal Rescue last week there was a cat in a tree and the RSPCA organised for its rescue.

Someone broke into our house and left a door open and Lulu, Bliss and Ocean got out, the others were well behaved and waited indoors. I came home in the dark to see cats running around the yard. We found Lulu and Bliss straight away but I couldn't find Ocean. I looked for a few hours then gave up for the night.

We were straight out again looking the next morning and found her about 2 1/2 storeys up a big gum with no branches in the bottom 5 metres. I don't like heights much as it is. Anyway, we were glad to have found her but I wasn't convinced she couldn't get herself down so I left some food and went to work, I only had two lessons on so I came home by 11:00.

She was still there. So I rang the SES. They were fantastic, they said on the phone that they would be there as soon as they could (it was less than an hour and we are quite rural) they assessed the situation, got their ladder, climbed up grabbed her, put her in a carrier and handed her back to me. I expected a bill but they just did it to help and treated it as a training exercise as they hadn't gotten a cat out of a tree for years. Very welcome surprise, Thank You SES.

I know this is an old post but approximately 14 years ago I lived in the inner city of Sydney with my then Siamese kitten who had no problem going UP trees that were four storeys tall - just no idea how to get back down. In my desperation I called the local fire station who came right round with a ladder truck and rescued her! I was so grateful I took them a case of beer. Just as well really - she did it again two weeks later and those gorgeous firemen did it again. That was the point that she became very much an inside cat. I wonder if they would do it now?

I could have done with some help a month ago when Henry escaped and got chased up a tree by a dog.

What a clever way to meet men in uniform? If only our garden had trees.....
