With the blustery winds this week, poor Lucy and Hershey have both developed static so we're zapping each other all the time.

Brushing isn't making it any better(!) though I have the choice of zoom-groom, wire slicker, metal roller comb, plastic comb and nylon(?) bristle brush. Tried baby powder but that didn't help either!

Is this something you just put up with in wild weather or is there a nice trick we can use?? Anything in particular work better for the fluffy birman breed??

Charley's favourite was the zoom-groom but I'm not sure if it will pull too much on these two, or de-fur them too much! And it didn't help much with the static either....

I wonder if slightly dampening their fur with some water from your hands would work? Might be worth a try..

Speaking of getting zapped, I find that I'm getting zapped by Murphy more and more often, sometimes if I hover my hand over his fur it stands up! I've asked my bf if it happens to him, but he says it doesn't.

I'll be waiting for an answer on this one!

I would use wet hands and rub them through the coat - so that it is damp and keep rubbing until it dries. Don't brush with a brush during this time though as it will aggravate it.

You are right about the Zoom Groom it will strip out the undercoat.

How about (perhaps not for show cats) you use a spray bottle with a small amount of hair conditioner mixed with water. I have one of these handy and do the kids hair with it. It is a great detangler as well. Just spray the cat lightly or put on your hands and rub over the cat.

The last thing our cats need is a shock whenever we touch one. smile.gif

Comb-out exelpet cat shampoo work for Seanna, its a foam you rub all over, wait 5 minutes then brush out, no static (at least for a while, Seanna could single pawedly solve the energy crisis)
