hi,

Some of you might already play this with your cat but I thought I'd share if , some people, like me, constantly try to come up with new cheap homemeade cat toys/games.
I'm an only cat household, so I provide quite a bit of the entertainment (well, sometimes i'm ambushed so, i guess i could say i'm sort of a prey too) and as you know, variety is the key. so here are a few of our favorites with Oscar:

soccer: We have floorboards and the doors are slightly elevated. which makes a 1-2 cm gap between the floor and the door. Oscar is the goal and I just slide toys or homemade balls under the door under his nose. His job is to catch thewm before they slide under. although sometimes he is a bit confused and push them under by mistakes. um, I won't tell you who is winning..... i suppose you can guess. We have a few practice moves before we start., ie trying to catch chicken jerky on the other side of the door with your paw.

Basketball: I positioned a few cushions against the angle of the sofa so as to leave a small hole at the top. I throw, Oscar tries to catch them before they fall in the hole or, sometimes, digs it in anyway. This is his favoutite jumpimg game as he knows the couch is under.

ambush: we just run around the both of us. i'll wait for him behind a door and scrape it slightly, then, when he is just about to look behind, i'll jump out shouting boo! Of course, now half the fun is not knowing who is going to jump at who first. I don't have children so I can indulge in this sort of fun. I have heard of a cat who can play tag. His owner would run after him until he could touch im and the cat would turn back and chase him until he would touch him with his paw!

the laundry basket with toys stuck in the holes has also become a novelty of late.

Any more ideas welcome..... dos anyone know to make a food puzzle?

I like the soccer with a goal, at the moment Orion and I just play with a little ball on the floor and I just try to roll it past him. The goal sounds like a good way to make the game a bit more entertaining.

We also play soccer ..but with a cardboard box as the goal ..it's great fun ..The food puzzle ..almost any box with paw sized holes fill with a bunch of biscuits..Tissue boxes with the clear plastic opening ..then you can seal and unseal easily.

The favourite game here at the minute is simply chasing a stick!
I have given up buying toys now!!!
it used to be reflections, shadows and 'torchie' but that's just not summer 2008! rolleyes.gif
