The packaging on breeder choices states that waste may be flushed down the toilet.

Well, I scoop my litter, flushing the cats poo down the toilet and wash my litter trays in the laudry trough where I also soak them in bleach.
It has just cost me $230 to have my sewer pipes unblocked.....the build up of litter even in these small amounts was amazing. The plumber was also amazed that the litter alone cased the blockage. There was nothing else caught in the pipes.

So my opinion is, do not flush any down the toilet and get a big plastic container to clean litter trays in outside and tip the water on the garden...water saving idea too smile.gif

You have me worried now. Our shower and sink drain upstairs isn't draining like normal. I wonder if this is this is the cause...

That's waht we do, but we use the ordinary clay stuff. Used stuff makes great compost once it's rinsed.

I also discovered that- but blamed the ancient drains in my old house at first
Had the plumber out twice when I flushed wonderwheat.
Used to flush the poos from BC- then one day when the washing machine was on there was an awful gurgling from the toilet and drain in that bathroom- other bathroom OK- so not the main drain.
Lots of buckets of water and flushing it unblocked it- but all goes in the bin or garden now
Catlux was supposed to be flushable but didn't like the way bits of it stuck to the bottom of the toilet- so binned that also

I used to use the clay litters years ago and would just empty it all into a plastic bag. Well, of course there would still be a little bit stuck to the bottom of the tray when I rinsed them out in the laundry and then soaked them in bleach.

Well, doing that for fifteen years, it built up and took hubby all day to scoop it out of the drain just below the laundry! Lucky it hadn't gone any further than that, and he was able to do it himself.

Thanks for the advice Wendy, I'll make sure that no kitty litter at all is in the trays when I wash them.

We had this same problem with a clumping litter, we had the litter tray in the ensuite shower and would just rinse any excess down when cleaning. The end result was a severly blocked shower base that had never been used for anything but a cat litter holder. We decided that if it could block a 1 3/4" pipe what was it doing to the insides of our cats and changed the next day to BC and have only ever used the bin.

if your pipes are sluggish from suspect kitty litter, try some caustic soda down the pipes to clear them (keep away from kids n cats as it is a poison). My friend cleared tree roots out of her pipes by using this stuff and kitty litter should be simple. If that failes, call the plumber pronto.

No one should ever put anything down any drain that isn't a natural byproduct of their own body. There is no way I have ever, nor would ever, put BC down my drains, whatever it says on the packet. It makes no sense at all. If you do this while renting the landlord may easily hit you with the bill, too. Even nasal tissues will clog up drains.

Just remembered a tip re blocked drains.....worth a try. Undo the nut on the sewerage outfall pipe and using the strongest jet you can on your hose - hose inwards towards the bath/loo etc.....this is often sufficient to unblock a partially blocked drain....

Plumber said Draino would not have unblocked the drain. The garden hone on full did not unblock the drain....dig it up, cut a piece out of the pipe, use his long pipe thing with twisated hooks on the end and after about 20 minutes of him prodding and poking, and small amounts moving each time......woosh......was amazing how much "litter slush" was there.....
