I have 2 of my new runs now being used, there is inside all covered and concrete floor and also outside shadeclothed area that is grass as the floor, I thought grass would be so nice for the cats but they use it as their toilet! I have 2 litter trays for each of them and yet they choose the grass and its disgusting and Im sick of picking it all up. So I am asking for suggestions on what I should use as a floor there? Its completly outdoors and is shadecloth top

Thanks
Julie

Yes one of my neuter girls prefers the grass in one of my outdoor enclosures. I just leave her to it although she only seems to wee there. I have a covered in tub out there as well though with some breeders choice in it and some of the other like to use that instead thank goodness. Maybe you could get rid of the grass altogether and lay pavers down or something?? How big is the area??

I have fake turf in the Outdoor Entertainment Area and find the same thing - ick!

paving in the Cat Mahal enclosures work much better and I also have covered litter trays in there incase they don't want to come indoor to do their business

Pavers sound like the go in your case. I'm so lucky, my lot come inside to 'go'!

Since we moved house a few months ago my stud run and 2 other cages have been temporarily placed on grass until we can get the floors in.
I have also found that the cats like to use the grass and to clean up is horrible!
I have laid down some lino for now - straight on the grass - which has helped a bit.
I can't wait to have my floors in, but it might be a while yet.
In your case I think pavers would be best.

How about converting some of the grass to a little garden and maybe partially burying a littler tray in there? Show the kittys what it is and they should get the idea.

I know that my furry kids love digging in the soft soil after I've done the Gardening. Actually, they're more like my supervisors when I'm out there!!!

Jen

Of course that might not work on a movable/tempory run!!! DOH!!

A tempory idea if you are short on cash is to get old carpet or lino that has been pulled up until you can do pavers or concrete. I have got old carpet around my pool until I can get it paved and am thinking of putting it under the patio on the laundry side until I can get it concreted. The carpet shops will give it to you free as they normally chuck it. Plus easy to remove when you are ready to pave or concrete

thanks all for your suggestions, I wanted everything to be the best for them, but i guess the grass will have to go. I think i may do the garden thing so some pavers with gravel and plants and see how that goes. Naughty pussies!!

Oh no. Do they all do this ?
My new cat runs, 3 of them joined are in progress & I was going to use fake grass in about half of each one so it would look nicer. The boys have pavers in their current enclosures & always go in the litter tray. One boy sprays a lot but not the others.
I thought with fake grass I could just hose it & the water will sink through.
I wouldn't put gravel in anywhere. I filled in a few edges with it as they were small & fiddly to concrete/cut pavers. The boy dig in it & its so hard to poop scoop it out on the edge.

I would use pavers and plant mondo grass between them - not a very wide bit....or even couch grass in between - that way they get some grass but can't dig it up....

I did use fake grass and did not have trouble with anyone peeing or pooping on that but it had a part of the yard where they could legitimately "go" in the dirt. My idea is the large pavers with grass in between.
