Looking For Vets In Perth
#7

I have friends who go to Your Pet's Vet on the corner of Beaufort & Central in Inglewood. They have received excellent service there & their opening hours are very good, I'm now thinking of changing to them as they are closer to me.
I think it would also be a good idea to ring around the vet's that have been recommended and check vaccination costs.

I've just checked my paperwork for my cats' vacs & for some reason they put the total cost for both cats on seperate documentation for each cat but I was only charged the once, whew! And yes the cost was what you have been quoted.
I can't comment on average costs as I have only used the one vet practice, the main reason why I would consider changing to another practice is they are south of the river & I'm in the city and I wouldn't want to get caught in busy traffic on the freeway, especially in summer.
Even though I have purebred cats, one thing I liked about Your Pets Vet is they have a kitten adoption program which is how my friends got their cats, however it has been their dogs which have needed regular vet treatment & the vets even sent a sympathy card when their first dog was pts.

I just popped in today, as I was walking by and yes, they have a lovely kitten adoption corner - there's 3 beautiful cats who I played with for a while. There were also two resident cats lounging in the reception and they were very jumping on the counter and playing with me. Price is slightly more here - $210 (additional $44 if in heat) for female sterilisation, $110 for male sterilisation, $70 for F3 vaccination, $49 for microchip.
The place looks nice and clean, with seperate waiting areas for dogs and cats, and had quite a selection of pet supplies on sale.

I am looking for a new decent vet myself as mine has left and is now at Ellenbrook so if you want someone who is honest, caring BUT straight to the point, go to Ellenbrook and see Ari.......she is fabulous! She will never rip you off, calls you to see how kitty is doing (she rang me at home to see how my old cat was and the symptoms she told me to look for made me rush him to the vet as he was ill and I thought he was ok!!), let out some tears when kitty was put to sleep. Smart, efficient, honest and very very educated/qualified. I am so upset she left as she is now about 45mins away & thats a bit too far for the kids to travel
There is also St Francis's in Osborne Park who used to be specialising in cats BUT I am not sure if they still are any good.
As I was discussing with Kay, best way is to go to the vet and check them out. May be expensive BUT worthwhile
good luck

That is quite a difference in price so it is definitely something worth checking, as is seeing if you can make appointments with the vet you prefer. Opening hours also vary greatly, so having one you can get to at times convenient for you is something to consider if you want to travel further away.
I know a lot of people here have had cats that needed a lot of vet treatment and they don't begrudge any of the costs but when it has been delivered with a poor bedside manner they will quickly seek out other practices and if you find a vet you have had very good experiences with you usually keep going to then even if they are more expensive & further away. It can be a bit hard to judge when your cats only go for annual vaccination how they would deal with something more serious & it doesn't help that vets move on but we all change jobs sometime!
I like the idea of separate waiting rooms, when my old cat had to be pts the waiting room was full of barking dogs & it was very stressful. I assume that if you have both cats & dogs the cats won't mind waiting with the dogs as they are around them all the time.
Jhoppy, do you know if St Francis Vets also have homeopathic treatments? There is an animal homeopathic college with the same name further along Main Street. Some other members here have had good results with homeopathic treatment combined with traditional.
