OK... POker ran away last night. He's possibly just hiding somewhere, but wasn't showing himself this morning. He is chipped and registered so in theory he will be brought back to me.

Seal point Birman- about 6-8 years old, about 4kg??, male, neutered, adopted so i'm not sure where he's heading to.

Let me know if you see/have my Kitty... Living in the Concord West/North Strathfield/Rhodes area!

That is what I am hoping.

I felt horrible keeping him locked inside when he was howling at the doors and windows... So we decided to open the windows and let him explore at his own pace. How else was I supposed to do it?

Ignore it! I had to ignore it for 6 months when i made my cat indoor only, and put up with a lot more from her than meowing. You want him to go out side, at his age. and get hit by a car, or baddly beaten up by a tom cat.
Birmans. Meow.
He would have gotten used to it.

Have you contacted the vets, the pound, door knocked the neighbours, walked around the streets calling him? Have you put up posters?

Of course I don't want him to go outside, I want him to be happy. Just like you didn't keep him because you wanted him to be. The share-house we have just moved into isn't working for us personally nor the cat and so we are looking to move. However with no aircon I have to leave the window open until we get a new place or he will get too hot.

To be honest Sarah i'd rather you just kept your critisims to yourself. He isn't YOUR cat and I have been doing whatever I can to make him happy. I am a Zoologist, so it's not like i have no idea about animals... I've just never taken in a stray cat, mine were always kittens.

As for getting another cat- I wish i'd gotten a kitten or a cat from a breeder because I would know it's history and be able to keep it indoors. Not that I don't adore Poker of course, but not knowing him or his history makes it difficult to make decisions that will work.

I have spoken to my local council. He's chipped and registered so any vets or pounds will call me if he is brought in.

The council dont ring around telling all the vets your details, and his M/c number.
Call vets, Put up signs. Make an effort.
Your right he is your cat. how long have you been in this House? a cat needs a few MONTHS to realise its home before you could even think about letting him outside and having him come back.
OK so your looking at moving, things aren't working there. Instead of just letting him out, how bout ask deb if she can board him till you find a new place? dont you think you should have checked if the windows had screens before moving in? Can you put fly screens up?

Of course the council doesn't ring the vets... the vets scan the cat and he comes up with a registration as far as i know.

No I'm not putting up screens that's not practical for somewhere temporary... My boyfriend is out looking for him, and if he doesn't come home tonight THEN i will mail drop.

Frankly Sarah you don't know the situation I was in when I had to move, and there wasn't an oportunity to see the house.

Why would I have put him in boarding? that would just upset him, aren't you the one who said he hates other cats?

I'm done with this conversation.

Oh no not sweet Poker. This poor boy. Sara Jane are you abale to go out and walk around softly calling him. In this weather that is comng he will get dehyrdrated very quickly. And yes you do need to put up flyers, in shops and on telegraph poles. Not everyone will automatically take a animal to a vet to see if it is microchipped .... they think "will this cost me money to do this".

And sadly you just cant let him out. You cant let any furball out not a rescue, not a kitten or a beautiful Birman because they all want to explore and then they get lost and confused and sometimes I hearts get broken.

Other Sarah calm down.

I think Sarah has every right to be upset with you and what she is saying is very valid. So maybe you should look at her situation and how she may be feeling.

Quite frankly SJ you are very inconsistent with what you say. You only come here when you have issues, you have the cheek to say that you wish you had got a cat/kitten from a breeder then you would have known the cats background. Well you knew you were getting a rescue, thats a lucky dip in my books. You knew what you were getting.

If I was a breeder there would be no way I would be selling you a kitten. If you decide you didnt like the kittens personality then what would you do, open a window?????

Geez!

I really hope he is found.
