On a somewhat irregular basis the local school has a mufti day and children contribute a gold coin to come to school out of uniform. This Friday all the proceeds will be donated to the bushfire appeals. The kids are so pleased to be able to help.

That is nice. They do a similar thing at my daughters school for various charities. Kids can be so generous, and kind.

Hmmmm, gives me an idea to ask DH if he can do the same at his business, with about 70 employees they might be able to raise a reasonable sum to go to a good cause... my staff wear mufti just about every day, but they are all bringing in sheets and pillowcases for the poor injured animals.

I, too, think it is a great way to allow children to feel as if they are doing something. Children often feel so disempowered and anxious about that, and this is a great idea.

What a great idea! Sometimes I think children aren't involved enough ... they care too and want to help ... and not often given the chance or means of doing so!

I so agree,

And this is a great idea,

We have our children who of course enter the world as a baby,
And as a parent I can say that often we overlook that they actually grow up,
I still see my boy as my baby but he makes me so proud so many times,

Within that 12 year old body of his there is a beautiful very capable, lovable and caring person in his own right,
They are just as affected as us by tradegy and do want to and have the need to help the same,

Regards, Paul

I don't know where to put this, so I'll tack it onto Bronnie's thread. I heard an email read out on the radio this morning from the mother of a 3 year old girl. After watching so much devastation on the TV, the girl turned to her mother and asked if they could send their hose to help put out the fires. Out of the mouths of babes... wub.gif

That's a wonderful idea. I hope they do that at my son's school too!
