Listening to the radio a man told Neil (I think) that he decided to that it was time to flee when he realised that this fire was like nothing they had seen before and that if he stayed their was little or no chance of surviving, he jumped in his car and took off. When the fire had passed he quickly went back to the town to see if he could help anyone.

As most of you would have seen their was a pile of cars that were on the road side, this was near his house and some of these people took refuge in his house along with many others (50 in total approx.) when they realised that they didn't have a chance of getting down the hill, these people combined their forces to save the house that they were in. This guy couldn't believe that his house was still standing and didn't care that these people took refuge in their, he was just grateful that he survived as to did the people most of which he knew.

The stories I have been reading just break your heart.

This is another one.

I can't imagine the horror these poor people have been through.

That is amazing. So sheer manpower and determination saved his house. In the old days all the neighbours worked together to battle blazes, but from the pictures I've seen it would have seemed an impossible task here.

What a lucky bunch. It is great to hear the good stories coming through the devastating ones.

Amazing.....Some of the stories coming out of this really stir your emotions.
but so many stories don't have a happy ending......individuals that battled to save lives and perished.
It is just so sad. You just have to be so grateful for each person that made it through.

It's so good to hear these sort of tales, really helps lift some of the sadness.

His wife and her friend are now organising supplies not only for the victims but also for the workers, they have been working in conjunction with a guy (MFB on holidays) that volunteered to man the 3AW phones for help, he is back at work but still helping with any problems they are running into like the road blocks etc.
