It will be hard for the animals until the bush and the land begins to regenerate, which it will no doubt after some rainfall to spurt on the trees and seeds that survived the fireball. What rare and precious species of plants have been lost, and ancient remnants of forests here before our time.
Many of the smaller trees and scrub bushes will be gone forever and I wonder if there are any plans to replanting in the future as the wildlife need them as part of their survival in the wild.
Paddocks will need resowing to bring feed up for livestock .... is there a plan in place for supplies of grass seeds to help the regrowth?
What has happened to some of those magnificent gardens in the hills behind Melbourne? Did they survive? Will their owners regrow them if they were burnt out?
It is a great pity that science in all its hoohaaa has yet to develop a fire retardant tree that people can grow near their homes for shade and protection.
these are just some thoughts racing through my mind. It is not to belittle the tragedy and trauma of today but a look forward to future problems that can and will arise.
