Hi, I'm wondering if it's possible to make a more individualised donation within the major fundraising efforts a the moment?
It comes from a recent thread about larger shoes of all things. I have very large feet & so have quite a few pairs of size eleven & twelve womens shoes that I'm more than happy to donate to someone at the fires. I also have some lovely larger lady's clothing that I would also be happy to donate. I'm nearly six feet tall too so they will suit a taller woman as well.
My reason for wanting to do this as a more individualised donation is that this was always a small quiet fear that I had when I was larger - especially during fire season. So if anyone can tell me if it is possible or even appropriate to do this I'd really appreciate it.
I am very wary of offending anyone so if anyone would prefer that this thread be deleted please pm me & I'll arrange for that immediately.
Cheers,
Lisa.

Lovely idea Lisa and I understand where you are coming from. I would suggest contacting one or more of the relief centres individually...perhaps Whittlesea as a starter.
Mybe the items could be clear plastic bagged separately and labelled with sizes, so they are easily found on the display tables by someone needing something like this and who may be self conscious about asking.

Lisa as a BIG person myself I would be appreciative to find the larger sizes in clothes and shoes if I had lost everything....what a lovely idea. I think the idea of individualising them by bagging and sizing is also a great tip and makes them easier to find...I am not sure how you could find an individual though so maybe through a Rescue Centre as was suggested.
I am thinking of offering some furniture when I get back to Australia....getting started again from nothing people will need a lot of help

I relate to what you are saying,
We as a family and also via our business have given financially to many of the relief funds to help both the people and the animal victims of fire,
But there is something special about an extra personal gift,my son still has a package ready to send to a boy who has lost all in these terrible fires,
I will continue to bump my thread while things settle down,
It is as greater pleasure for the giver as it is for the reciever for any exchange of gifts or help/support,
I dont know whether any other country shares what we share as Aussies when it comes to caring for each other but it sure makes one proud to be Australian,
I still think we are special and unique and live in the best place on earth,
If nature doesnt always treat us well we treat each other well as a majority,
Still suffering the worst dry ever here in SA,
Hugs again to all Victorians suffering and also not forgotten the poor people in Queensland who are flooded out,
Regards,Paul

don't feel worried about offending people your heart is in the right spot and it is always a unique quality in a person to give freely to people in need without wanting something back in return. Good on you I say. Also good on you to all who have given to people in this terrible situation.
