There is a good article here http://www.smh.com.a...90215-887x.html re the fact that most bushfire victims now have a plethora of short term necessitiies and we need to look at long term things like sheds, farm equipment, tools and aid to rebuild community centres etc.
I think he's right and how can we help do this - maybe find or set up a fund tohelo rebuild a community hall or something and direct donations? Ask our own vicims /affected members what their community needs and how we can help?
I'd like to direct my donations this way and help for the long term.

A lot of those things would have been fully insured - at least they should have been. Not to distract from needing to help but when the money will be coming in for them anyway ... for farms it will depend on their farm insurance and what it covers, but most community centres etc will almost certainly have full insurance (part of their public liability costs if nothing else).

I would like to think that the telethons and huge money earners for relief will be used in this way to suppliment insurance payouts etc. I would hope that rebuilding includes some extras in a green way ..new halls with solar power etc, On one of my sites I frequent there is a water pump system designed as a childrens playground, as the children play the water is pumped up into storage. On the local highway near Ballina..dunnies are self composting with small water tanks to wash your hands.. lets green up while we can.
