Hi Did anyone see on Sydney Sunrise this morning the debate and laws regarding enclosing yoru cat at night? It was interesting. Hopefully they'll browse this forum and see how a happy an enclosed cat can be.

No, I didn't see it. Wish I'd known it was on.
I'm so surprised by how many cats I see just in my local neighbourhood who are outside and right close to the road. Where I live, for some reason there seems to be a HEAP of huge and fluffy cats all around in the streets. They're not homeless, but for example, the other day I was walking back from picking up some takeaway for dinner, and came across this HUGE ginger cat (its body was absolutely ENORMOUS but it's head was tiny. lol) and it was lying on the grass right next to the (VERY busy) road. Then its sibling or child or parent perhaps came out, who looked exactly the same but was somewhat smaller (still with the very small head though)...other examples I've seen are the fluffy possibly either Birman or Ragdoll cat that lives in our building, we've seen him dart across the road twice at night, and have held our breaths cause there are always cars driving too fast around here.
Something that does not surprise me though, is that in my area there is also an unusually high number of posters up around the place on poles, in shop windows, etc, looking for a missing cat or kitten. Today I saw one for a 4.5 month old kitten and that was about the 6th one we've seen in the past 4 months alone.
WHY do they not keep their cats INSIDE!?!?!?! (My family grew up with our 2 cats being able to go outside when they wanted. We had a large back yard and also front yard, and they were lucky I now see to never run into any trouble. This was back in the 80s and 90s...however, nowadays, my parents do let my Melbourne cat Maxi out whenever he wants, BUT they've got a courtyard garden and it's catmaxed. So it's ok.)
