As there is only one Vet in Taggerty (near Marysville) and she has been working her butt off round the clock, she is now in urgent need of Vet supplies and any assistance possible. All the aid has been going to the larger more publicised areas and this one woman vet clinic has been forgotten.
If anyone can assist with getting donations of Veterinary medical supplies, cages, bedding food etc for her, you can contact - Julie Oakes on (03)59665712

We will also be taking donations, both material and monetary, for the Taggerty vet at the Foreign Shorthair Cat Club show on Sunday. Please see either Julie or myself if you wish to bring something to the actual show. One of us, probably Julie, will be going up to the Taggerty vet practice with donations next week after the show.
Cheers
Liz

What sort of material donations would be helpful?

Bedding, blankets, sheets, towels, litter, all types of pet foods, trays, cages, etc. Medical/Veterinary supplies such as eye wash, saline solution, eye ointments, veterinary burn ointment, Hartmans, bandages, gauze, jelonet, melolin, syringes, large cotton buds, Nutrigel, injection ports, Clavulox/Baytril/veterinary pain relief meds and so forth (donations of these types of things might also be available from chemists and vets in one's local area, many of whom are being very generous in this regard)....anything at all though will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Liz

Contact Julie for details - (03) 59665712 of what may be required. I know Saline, Bandages, Bedding, Crates and Vet medicines are required urgently, as there are burnt cats and other animals now coming out of nowhere and they are being found down rabbit burrows etc, but there is no areas to keep them contained during treatment.
Even if some people could say donate some towels or bedding, buy a box of pp20 crates from Chris and have them posted to Julie, then she can deliver them when she takes other donations up there.
For those of you who don't know where Taggerty is, it is (or was) a tiny hamlet near Marysville (which was burnt out and is still a crime scene), there are no Vet services in this area now other than Rachel the Taggerty Vet. Rachel is only a young, new Vet and therefore doesn't have the financial backing of having had a built up practice behind her to finance all this horror.

If anyone in Sydney wishes to donate any of these things, I will be happy to be a collection point and transport them down. Maybe Lynne, Heidi, Karin and Beau-ty who have been helping out would be happy for the next load to go there.

Edited again to add Heidi again, the gremlins keep taking my posts and edit away...

Bedding are required urgently,

Vicki, there is a pallet of towels, bedding and blankets with Janet.
We discussed it last night and I believe Janet will try to get it to Taggerty Vet.

Sarah

ETA: I also have several bags of Advance and Breeders Choice here to donate and I am just tyring to work out the best way to get it there.

Thanks Sarah and Janet, that will be great.
Julie has passed this info onto the Taggerty Vet and I am sure she will be thrilled to receive the bedding.

As I know a lot of the donations went to RSPCA in Vic - and I understand they now have heaps - would it not be possible to see if they could send some things on to her?

If I hear of anyone else wanting to donate items I will pass this on.

gosh that poor vet. Where is she housing the cats that she is treating ? Can any assistance be provided in that respect ? I would guess she is running out of room. Is it possible for others to take cats and have them treated elsewhere ? or is this not feasible ?
So are there a lot of cats now being found ? I had heard not many had made it out - but this from what is being said here this appears to not be the case. If a cat was able to make it underground, it would be able to survive the firefront. However they will need treatment asap, as well as food and water being scarce or non-existant.

Chris, can you please find out if she needs syringes and examination gloves? We are hoping to get some more this week and will get some down to her if she needs them.

Poor Rebecca (dont know why I wrote Rachel!), she must be so overwhelmed right now. I was wondering if anyone has called Nigel from Nigels Animal Rescue? I know he has been collecting food, bedding etc and is offering them to anyone who is caring for any fire animals. Last time I spoke to him he said he was literally over flowing with donations and could supply hem to those who need it. His number is 0427 533 083. Also I can donate towels, a crate (which could fit up to a medium dog) and latex disposable gloves. I havent been able to reach Julie on her phone but if someone could let me know where these can go that would be great.
