Well we have decided to build which means the kitties get their own enclosure.
We have been discussing how we are going to make it and we came to the flooring.
BF said to dig about a 30cm deep trench sort of thing and put the enclosure into the ground. and I suggested having the wire or whatever we are using, covering the ground and letting the cat grass and stuff grow on top of the wire.
Where we are building is on the river out near Yarrawonga..so there is wildlife around, which I would hate to dig under the fence into the enclosure..or our dogs, not that the dogs will hurt the cats, but we don't want the cats out of course.
So just curious as to what other people have done for flooring.
We cannot have anything to permanent as we are building 'stage 1' which is going to be a little cottage, and live in that for a few years then build our big house, which we will have the permanent enclosure attached to our house then.
Any suggestions or advice would be great.
Thanks

I would use the large concrete pavers that you can buy from stores like Bunnings.....leave a small gap between them and you will have grass etc grow between them. The advantage of this is that they can't dig it up to use as a toilet, still get some greenary and the slabs can be pulled up later and used as stepping stones or whatever in the garden later on......
If you are wanting to prevent Snakes then you need snake/mouse proof wire up to around 1 metre or a metre and a half to stop them getting in.
Lucky cats is what I can say for the moment....sounds like a great project.

I like the pavers idea. Thanks
We are thinking of having a 'toilet' area in there with a little plastic sandpit dug into the ground, which would get cleaned daily and easily be removed when we need to take it out.
We are planning on making a garden with catnip, mint and other plants and grass so they can play in.
With snakes and stuff, we are going to make sure it's all snake proof. But they don't seem to get a lot of snakes around that area...but can never be too safe.
