Dear all,

After the dramas of losing our Jubey for 5 days last November (some of you may recall my thread in the Lost and Found section), we decided to build a fence line enclosure in our tiny backyard to keep her from escaping again. We used materials from Catnets and did it ourselves. Although it was a challenge, as the fence line is not straight and we have a tree in the way, we think we've done a pretty good job for two women with limited DIY skills!

Jubey is unimpressed at not being able to climb the fence any more (which she has been doing since her return but only when supervised by us) but seems happy at being able to go out for longer than the supervised time she's been having over the past 5 months. Charlotte, our other cat, never wanders so couldn't care less! I've attached some pictures:

Looks fantastic and very discreet. Well done.

Jube, you just settle down - don't even think about it!

I love it and the look on Jube's face is priceless.......lol.....very lucky puss-cats. How did you manouvre round the tree - can't quite see that from the pics and what are the angles made from that support the netting.

I think you did real good.

Well done you have done a terrific job. I guess you fixed Jube's little escapades. She certainly does not look impressed at all.

Thanks everyone! It certainly was a labour of love but it is so much better than our previous arrangement of only letting Jubey outside supervised since the November escapade. Now we can leave the back door open when we're home and she can come and go as she pleases, and I don't have to get bored sitting outside watching her every move.

Heather - the posts are from Catnets and they're a thick galvanised steel - being so thick, it was a tough job drilling through them to make the holes for the screws to attach to the fence post, but it would have been easier, we're sure, if we had a better drill, rather than a cheapo one from Bunnings blink.gif

To go around the tree, we simply cable-tied the top of the netting to some of the branches of the tree, and cable-tied the bottom of the netting to the fence. It actually worked out much better than I had planned, although it did require some rudimentary pruning of the tree. It's hard to see i the photos as we got low-visibility netting which only came out properly in the close ups.

Great work - and isn't it well worth it for the peace of mind.

Jubey is obviously a 'cat with attitude'.

It looks great, and what a relief it must be for you. We did a similar thing in my daughter's courtyard, and had to wrap the netting around the trees as well.
