Hi all, first post for me!

I am in the process of planning an outside cat run for our new kitten Misha; she's 4 months old at the moment and really wants to get out! The run will be attached on one side of the carport and will measure approx 5.5m x 1.2m and be around 2m high, constructed of 50mm x 50mm wire mesh. To access the run, there will need to be an aerial tunnel running from the house to the run, it will span approx 4m and it will be attached to the ceiling of the car port. The tunnel will also be constructed using the same mesh with a plywood base.

I have done a little research on the internet regarding the dimensions of the tunnel, the norm seems to be 30cm x 30cm, as I would like to reduce the amount hanging from the ceiling, and knowing full well she will grow up, I was wondering what would be an acceptable minimum width and height for such a tunnel?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
All sounds great. I don't know why there is a recommended minimum size but there will be a reason, based on some probable previous problems with having it smaller.
Guessing that would be the space your cat needs to turn around in, if need be, for any reason or other.
Stick to the minimum size, its not going to make a big difference in your building plan & if you make it smaller you may find out the hard way why.
Then you will have to redo it all.
ETA Your 2nd post has to be a photo of Misha.

What sort of cat is Misha?? Is she likely to be a big girl?? Can you add a turning circle in it for her ..lol ..then you could reduce the width on most of it?

Great to hear from someone who is building an enclosure - Misha will be safe and happy and you will have peace of mind. My tunnel is much smaller (see my post in this area of the forum) but it is only short, no need for turning room.

Thanks for the replies!

I think it's best to stick with the general size just in case, as Misha is a domestic breed, it's hard to tell how big she'll get, so to be on the safe side I'll stick with a 300 x 300 tunnel.
