Hi sorry I haven't been around lately but I need some advice and help regarding a stray cat.
I am being evicted, due to loss of job, so money etc is at a premium (I have none) but what has happened is that I have lived here for 8 months. Now since I have been here there has been a black and white cat that sleeps in my front garden, all the time. But for the last 2 months I have been feeding him (less impersonal than it) and he is looking much better and not as 'hunted' as he was. My original plan was to feed him until I could get close enough to entice him in. This would have been a delicate operation due to the fact that I already have 2 cats and 2 small dogs, but I was willing to try. But now as I have to go I wanted to take him IF he wanted to come with me.
So I rang Cat Protection and another agency and both said the same. I have to hire a trap and hand him in, if he cannot be tamed then they would put him to sleep. Well I do not want to be responsible for that happening. So any advice? Cheers Pyewicket

Are they saying that you can only hire a trap if you hand him in after even if you are willing to have him come with you?? Can you hire, or borrow a trap from somone else?
PS ARe you able to edit your title so that there is more information there - hopefully that will make more people look at your post and maybe someone will be able to offer more help.

I am afraid it is the normal routine - if they hire you a cage and you catch the cat they always want you to hand it in.....and they have been honest with you. If he can't be tamed he will be PTS because there are so many cats and kittens that are friendly that wil not find homes and still meet the same fate.
Is there a neighbour who might take on he task of caring for him until he can be caught. If he cannot be re-homed and your neighbour might be happy to feed him for you the best although not ideal scenario might be to catch, desex and release.
I'm sorry but I can't think of anything else at the moment except to surrender him and let him take his chances.

I too cannot think of another option, but try to think of the bigger picture, it is not kind or fair to leave him to fend for himself, every cat and in fact every domestic animal deserves to be cared for properly, living outside belonging to no-one is no life. My mum came by a cat this way but he was sick and frail and she was able to entice him into a carrier and whisk him to a vet, it took her months to nurse him and tame him. When I moved here I gained a cat, then just as I had gotten to a point where I thought I could catch him and get him to the vet, he presented with cat flu, he had to be PTS, far to sick and old, he had lived on the street for years it seems, is should never had gotten to that, poor boy, I had called him Ollie.
