I have purchased a hard cat cage and a soft carrier off the internet 2 weeks ago now and they have still not arrived! Rory has his second vacc tomorrow at 9am, due to some extreme stuff ups with automatic payments coming out when they are not supposed to I have $20 in my pocket until tomorrow night.

So I am stuck without my cat cage or the abilty to run out and grab another one.

I need to take him to the vet in something... so what is the alternative? On hand I have -

a bird cage (think 2 budgie sized)
a cardboard box
overnight sized bags
covered kitty litter tray - which has a handle and can be cleaned out without too many dramas

I am thinking the covered kitty litter tray as it has a handle, vents on top and he can see out the door which is a clear plastic flap to be secured with tape

I am such an idiot! I have bought from this place before and received everything within a week tops, but the alternative was paying twice what I paid locally for something which didn't meet my requirements.

My husband suggests walking to the vet with my Daughter and Rory in the pram... erm I don't think so...

which would you use in an emergency?

A pillow case in the cardboard box ...but I think the pillow case will be more secure, he may not be happy but he'll be safe ...

How secure is the bottom of the enclosed litter tray? You wouldn't want the bottom to fall out in the street. Are you walking or driving?

I have seen people use a linen basket with the top tied down but can't you slip down to the vet and borrow one of their cat carry cages.

Can you ring the vet first thing and postpone the vet appointment for a couple of days?

Pillow cases tied at the opening are the best form of alternate carry crate. The cat may be concerned and yet some like them but they are recommended if you do not have a crate handy.

ok I shall see if I can either postpone it, or see if he will mind being in a pillowcase. He doesn't seem to mind being pushed round in a doll pram, carried like a baby or hanging out in a cardboard box so he might be ok in a pillowcase...

I use plastic picnic baskets purchased from the reject shop for $12 Cheif no longer fits but the others do and easily cleaned in case of accidents place a towel or baby blanket in the bottom

I was all set to convert a cardboard box into a you - beaut carrier when Mr courier knocked on my door with my carriers! Rory was petrified of the large plastic one, but really likes the small softer one, it's a great design too! Really sturdy and easy to carry with a good solid bottom. So his trip to the vet went without a hitch in his new handbag style carrier smile.gif

He is sleeping in it now, so I think I shall leave it set up as his little bed.
