In about December, my 9 year-old cat Goliath went missing. He's male, VERY big and is black and white. He has very long fur and the fur on his back is sort of brown (it was black but turned brown from the sun). He's got a long black/brown tail with a tiny bit of white on the tip. He's got a white belly and white feet and paws. He was wearing a red flea collar. It's been nearly six months but I'm still hoping to find him. I was hoping he'd make his way back home because one of my other cats went missing for about a month and came back. I've searched through other sites looking for him but I've had no luck so far. I don't know if he is desexed or not. I adopted him when he was about 7 and his previous owners didn't tell me. I tried to look but he is just so fluffy that I couldn't tell.

About three days ago, one of my other cats went missing. Her name is Tortoiseshell and she's female. She's medium in size but has very small paws and a small head and face. Her left eye has an ulcer on it due to trouble she had when she was a kitten. She's just over a year and a half old and had kittens three months ago so she's not desexed. Her fur is quite long and she's got a lot of different patterns. Her tail isn't as bushy as it is in these pictures. One of her ears is nearly all ginger on top and one of her legs has a big patch of ginger. The rest of her colours are a mixture of white, grey and ginger. She wasn't wearing a collar.

I'm getting really emotional looking at her pictures. It's really hard when you lose a pet. This isn't the first time this has happened but it's painful each time. I get really paranoid too. I always wonder why they go but I'm always afraid my neighbours have something to do with it. My neighbour is a rotten old woman. She lets her dogs bark all day and all day. Her landlords live across the street and they never stop her. My dad has told her over and over to keep her dogs quiet and she never listens. And you know what happens when he tells her? She calls the council or the RSPCA. She doesn't say "sorry" and try to make an effort. She actually reports us for doing nothing. I'm afraid that she's making false cruelty reports. It's makes me angry but most of all it makes me sad. I've NEVER abused my animals. I love animals more than anything else in the world and for someone to accuse me of something like this just to be petty is despicable. If I don't see one of my cats straight away in the morning, I always think she's done something to them. Sometimes I think that if she's got animals herself that she wouldn't try something like that but she's a miserable old woman so I wouldn't put it past her.

oh sweetie I so hope you find both your cats, do letter box drops, put up flyers, call the AWL and RSPCA. Do consider confining your cats to inside only, so much risk outside from nasty people as well as so many other things sending catmagic3.gif for their safe return

Thank you. I hope I find them too.

I have quite a few cats (and a very small house) so it's not possible to keep them inside but they've all grown up outside. I don't think they'd like to live inside permanently.

Dont give up. Try your local pound/council but you have to be in constant contact with them. Their turnover is very quick. sad.gif

Definitely contact all rescue organisations. Put up flyers everywhere/letter drop.

Keep on going, even if it takes months.

Good luck.

Might pay to say where you are just in case someone can help.

Good luck, you must be very upset - they are gorgeous furries.

When Goliath went missing, it was an extremely hot day. He's a very difficult cat so when I tried to take him some milk, he just turned his nose up and walked away. That was the last time I saw him. The next night though, my mum said she thinks she saw him and the day after, my dad said he saw him. I really don't know what's happened to him. He had a very bad habbit of sleeping under and on cars and also on the road. Everytime I saw him do that, I tried to stop him but he just didn't listen. I was always scared he'd get run over. The thing is, he didn't wander very far. If I were to look out the window, I could see him. And if he did get run over, I would've seen it. So I still hope he's ok.

As for Tortoiseshell, she was acting a bit strange before she disappeared. She was running around the yard playing like a kitten. She isn't often like that. But at the same time, she was a bit grumpy too. She was hitting my other cats. She's always been a bit strange but this behaviour was even stranger.

I'm sorry to hear that your cats have gone missing.
It sounds very much like your tortoiseshell female cat was on heat/in season at the time she went missing. It's likely that she is off with the boys getting mated. I hope she returns very soon. I strongly suggest that you get her desexed as soon as she returns to prevent unwanted kittens and roaming behaviour in search of mates.

The others have given you very good advice - definitely get all your cats desexed and get an enclosure built outside to contain your cats - a handyman could easily build a structure so that they can get fresh air but not roam and get into trouble. Another alternative is to buy a large bird aviary which would do the job as well.

I'm trying to get my female cats desexed, believe me. But it's hard when people don't listen to you.

I really feel like I'm going crazy now. I saw my other tortoiseshell cat yesterday but last night she wasn't there and today she isn't either. I'm really worried because she hardly ever leaves the yard and when she does, she only goes a few houses down (and I live near a dead-end street). She's only seven months old.

Well let's just say it's taken a lot of convincing. I've made some progress though. Can you tell me whether C.A.T.S. is a good place to get them desexed?

I'm seriously considering getting netting around my yard to keep my cats inside. I've got a big front and back yard and want them to have full access but I don't want them to go next door or onto the road. I've been reading the other forum about cat netting/enclosures but I've still got a lot of research to do. I just hope it's not too expensive.

I remember my parents had a cat desexed with the CATS group. It reduced the cost and helped a lot.
